Good place to board?

Basenji Talk
  • I'm going to be traveling for work for 3 days next week and need someone to help take care of her…I can bring her to the hotel but I would only be able to come back during lunch during the work day...I called one place (recommended by my vet)...and they said she gets 3 walks about 15-20min long but other than that...she'll be in a kennel...is it good for her to be in a kennel for long periods of time? She's only 13 weeks

  • Can you get a dog sitter? I have dog walkers who also do overnight visits, and they are great! When I have to be away, someone is here with my guy all night, he gets a walk in the morning, someone is here at lunch time for an hour plus another walk, then if I am away more than one day she comes back at 4 p.m., walks him again, and stays overnight. Works great. Maybe someone in your area does something similar??

  • How about your breeder?…
If not.. then a sitter that stays at your house

Hello Linda, was cruising through the Forum and here you are! Congrats on the new home. In case you don't remember me, I was looking for a B and you somehow responded then we spoke of the Rainbow Bridge…. I invited you to hook up your RV if you were ever in Fl. Anyway, the new boy I adopted is a Tri-and I noticed his left front leg is white just like Maxx's in his photos! Just too funny to see this! I just wanted to add as well, that if anyone in Fl has the need for an extended stay and cannot find a house sitter, I have boarded dogs in my 'front bedroom' that I dog proofed, and since I now have quite the friendly B, he would love to keep company with another I am sure! See my home page for an image since I cannot insert one in this Quick Reply!

Sounds like your vet's office has all the right setups for boarding and for day care - my own vet's office does not have all those facilities. Wish they did! At the place where I do take them, the outside play area is covered,so climbing out is not possible, or I would worry about that as well, since our B's certainly can climb! So glad you have found a place Cody is safe and happy when boarding is necessary.

We always board at the same place. Our dogs tolerate it pretty well. They have indoor/outdoor runs. I prefer that because I would like the dogs to be handled as little as possible. The only one who doesn't do all that well, is Querk. He always loses weight when we are gone, but he still eats his normal amount of food. The owner has to walk him around the property to get him to poop…he will hold it for days if not, and then he explodes, and it is just not good. But each time, he has gotten more comfortable. Ideally, I think we would have someone come and stay with him in the house, and board the girls. With having to keep some of the females separate, I just don't trust anyone else to not mess it up.
