Puppy Feeding Questions

    Kong is about 3 1/2 months old. I have been feeding him 3 times a day. I normally come home at lunch time to feed him. I have been doing 7am, 1pm, and 7pm. I love being able to come home at lunch time for some puppy love but some days at work are really busy. I'm wondering if the 3x a day feeding schedule is necessary. Should I continue on this schedule or if I can modify it to 7am, 5pm, 8pm or drop down to twice a day.
    I am feeding him a total of about 1 1/4 cup.
    He has been great about potty training and doesn't have crate accidents but I also don't know if his little bladder could go 8 hours. I wouldn't make it a habit but there are about 2 days a week at work that I would love to be able to work through lunch.

    I feed 3x's a day until they are 4 1/2 months or well into teething. And even when I go to 2 feeding, they still get a "snack" of cookies 1/2 way between those feeding times.

    8 hours is pushing the limit at 3 1/2 months, IMO. And many have a bit of regression during teething. I would suggest that after he is 6 months, 8 hours would not be too much of a strain.

    Thank you for the reply. I will wait before I try it then. I can always get a dog walker for a day or two if work gets to busy.

    I totally agree with Tanza. Personally I find that at approximately 4 to 5 months they start to show lack of interest in the 3rd feed - it is then I cut down.

    I appreciate that you are anxious to work through your lunch hour but if I were you i'd wait a little. Kongo is still a baby.

    @lvoss: It has been raining most of the day here and L'Ox has been unenthusiastic to say the least about going outside. He has been doing really well on potty training and is starting to ask to go out but you could tell every time he actually got outside he was horrified by all the wet. So his remedy was to run to the edge of the covered porch and pee and rush back in. His dilemma was how to do the rest of his business without melting in the rain? So while I was in the kitchen gathering up the dog dishes I hear a clatter and see a little puppy butt escaping into the garage through the cat door. I follow him out there only to find him pooping near the cat's litter box. I guess I should be glad that he seems to be using his brain for good rather than evil right now. My little girl was like that but got out of the habit. She realized that going in the house was naughty (she wouldn't go on the toilet training mats we got her) and even though she hated her feet wet she went on the grass anyway and when she came inside she did the basenji thing and she licked it off her feet.

    Home is a dog's "territory" and sometimes they will protect it as such (especially against other dogs)… Possibly the breeder is concerned this would be an issue. Maybe she would consider meeting somewhere "neutral" with you and some of the dogs...

    @soulmate: Did not know that. But what for do you have to answer then the whole questions, when you register with the CPP? And yes, it would be helpfull, if you would be able to see in which country the B's are registered if they are not in the US. Regards, Esther Because CPP uses that data for other studies.

    My husband was afraid that Cooper was "my" dog at first, but things really evened out after we went through training as a family. Now, Cooper is attached to me during the day (when I have days off), and glues himself to Geoff after dinner every night. He still walks and rides in the car better with me, though. And I'm the only one who can brush his teeth!

    On tv this morning they showed some dogs that were to be adopted at Petsmart from the Humane Society. One of them they said was a basenji/terrier mix. That dog was huge and he didn't look anything like a basenji to me. No batwing ears but the tail was curled.
