spraddle feet is when the ligaments inbetween the legs stretch out. The duckling can't walk because the legs are out to the side. To fix it (hopefully) I have cut a piece of pipe cleaner (chenille straw) and wound it around the legs to bring them closer together so it will heal. Hopefully it will only take a few days. If not, then unfortunately, I won't let him suffer. He probably slipped and stretched the ligaments.

  • Oh no…poor thing...I hope that he heals, let us know his fate...
Who would have thought I'd get so attached to ducks! They're all adorable and hope that you get to enjoy them for a longtime

  • Debra, what a sensible daughter you have! Highland cattle are my favourite breed of cattle. I also used to raise Muscovy ducks with Basenjis - they always got on and used to travel with us on family holidays. Not much fun for my husband who was the driver. (A van filled with 4 boys, six Muscovies and 5 Basenjis and a wife of course!) Those were the days!! I envy you Arlene.

    Thank you for the pictures.

  • Wow! That's unique! Travelling with ducks!

  • So cute! Hope the baby's legs heal. :(

  • He's doing much better. Hopefully, in a few days, I will know for sure.

  • Good to hear, fingers crossed

  • What kind of ducklings are they? It looks like you may have more than one kind there.

We have Muscoveys here. I adore them! They eat mosquitos, ticks, and flies so we don't have problems with those insects here.

  • I have three rouen and the rest are muscovey.

Yay, thanks for sharing. I don't see much Basenji action on it yet, but I'll keep a watch on it. Also very interesting to get a UK perspective, too.

@Janneke: A smart thing to do! I'm also thinking about a kennel name, but I first want a female at home.. It's pretty expensive to register a name  In Sweden it cost about 250 Euro to register the name. I got my name from the 1/12 2010 so its not that old. But it has taken over a year to get it approved by both FCI and SKK (Swedish kennel club).

Hey my Basenji boy Gibby is startled everytime he sees a mirror. I really think sometimes he has no idea what he looks like as he sees more humans than other dogs! Lord knows somedays I am sure I will look over and see him walking across the room on the 2 hind legs as he so curious about things above him…I do know that is one handsome Grandson and CONGRATS!
