    I've been thinking about getting a Basenji and believe I am now ready. Are there any Basenjis available in or around the Greater Toronto Area? I'd be willing to adopt one as well.

    The Basenji would be in a house with a loving family of four with two young adults (16 and 18). Easy access to a large park and a small, fenced backyard in a suburban area.

    You may want to try a couple of breeders from the BCOC Website. I know Sue Wilcox has some older B's available, she does have an adoption process and you will have to contact her. Her contact info is available on the BCOC website:

    Other than that, I'm not sure who has available dogs.

    I'm not breeding this year and probably won't for at least three to five years.

    You can also contact Bob Brewster in the TO area. He does Basenji Rescue's for Canada. You can private message me for his e-mail address. I know recently there was one special needs that was either partially blind or completely blind and one other one close to the Kingston area. If you are interested in the contact info for these, let me know through private message as well.

    BRAT can and does sometimes arrange transport runs up to Canada. And occasionally there are Canadian B's listed, too! I think what is most important is fit, so if you are the perfect fit for a Basenji in the nearby States, they'll find some way to get him/her to you. There's no harm in filling out an application with BRAT and seeing what happens. If Titan doesn't work out, there are always more in the pipelines, and it seems there are many more out East, near Toronto, than, say, my area.

    You have many options, especially if you're open to rescue. Good luck!

    We recently purchased a male Basenji from Blackwing kennel, East of Ottawa. He is a wonderful, clever and feisty guy (8 months old now). You should contact Kathie, I believe she still has some pups from the same litter available.

    Yes, its seems to be the way, just leave something if its not convient. My family was Navy, 30 and as I am 60 old, you know that was a ways back. We took our ****er to Hawaii 2 times. Yes, expensive, but part of the family. Wish folks were more responsible, sigh, but times seem to be changing. what was deleted is spanial, co*ker…laugh.

    Hi, I talked to my daughter last night and she really does not want me to find him another home, even though he's making her sick, (she's allergic to him). She threatened to leave home if I did. She's 18 so she could. I guess we will try and keep him. The good news is I did find a place that will pick up and drop off dogs, take them for long walks in the woods, and let them play with other dogs for the day. All for just $17.00 a day. So at least he's not in a crate for 9 hours any more and he seems to really enjoy it. He runs to the person right away and is excited to go and comes back very happy and tired.

    Yes i have been very interested for a long time. Iv been in contact with a Breeder from England for a while now and they are expecting a summer litter. While iv been speaking to the breeder i feel comfortable that she will be more than helpful and is willing to all of the above. Like you said the price was the last thing on your mind, this goes for me too. I was just wondering along the lines so i could save to buy my puppy. Thanks for the help :)

    @bellabasenji: It all boils down to what is better for the (so called)"breeders" wallets!!!:mad: UUuuugh… BYB's & millers!!!:mad: That is true, a pure for profit breeder is not going to spend money on health testing that is going to cut into their bottom line. They will do as little testing as they can do and still sell puppies. Educating as many people as possible to demand health testing for both parents is the best thing that we can do for the breed. There will always be some who want a puppy "right now" and won't care but the more people we can educate the smaller the market for puppy mill dogs because really most people do want to do the right thing and want a healthy puppy that will be a long lived companion.
