Help with class project- Oregon

Off Topic
  • I'm working on a class project about cat colony caretakers and bird conservationists. Our class is surveying all 50 states and I am attempting to get in touch with cat colony caretakers in Oregon to have them do our survey because so far they are not represented in our project although I know that there is a strong community of them in Oregon. Over the past few months, I've tried most of the usual channels (Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon, shelters, vet offices, etc) but I haven't had any luck, so I thought I'd take a shot in the dark and see if any of our Oregon residents know of any cat colonies in their area.

We are not taking sides in the issue, but we are hoping that what we learn from this research project will help to solve some of the conflicts between the two.

If anyone in Oregon knows of any cat colonies (or people out of state knows of any in Oregon) I would really appreciate the help. I can also provide some more information about the survey and the project.

    Thanks!

I know how you feel. It's horrible to live close to animal neglect. My new next-door neighbors leave their two dogs out 24/7– heat, rain, snow, lightning storm. They have a big fenced yard, but almost no shade. Of course, the dogs bark non-stop. There's no talking to people like that-- I've already been told to mind my own business. Maybe your neighbor will take you up on your offer... but probably not. It's sad.

I have 2 Bio and 1 Physics class on Monday and Wednesday at one site and then I have 7th grade Life Science, Earth Science, Physics, and Biology on Tuesdays and Thursdays at another site. I am also the adviser for the leadership club at the second site. It can get quite hectic sometimes but they are good kids.

@BasenjiDiva: Maybe a sheet of plywood to cover the door? (We put our dogs in wire crates when we leave the house and while they tolerate them when we gone, they cry loudly when they know we are around. I don't think we could entertain guests with their dramatics going on. ) While our dogs like and tolerate our little grandsons, there are times I feel like they need to be separated. Then I put high baby gates up to secure the dogs in the kitchen. Is that possible in your home? It is a bit of a hassle for people to go in and out of the kitchen but it is very doable and beats the alternative. And the dogs can see what's going on. Pat We have this problem with Querk too. He is almost never crated, except when we have a big group of people over. What we have done that works is put his crate in a room as far away from the gathering place as possible, and close the door…and let him cry it out. He usually quiets down after he realizes that he is in for the duration of the party. He will start up again if he hears someone. I have been known to put his crate in the van too, if the weather is cooperative.
