  • My son Eli and Jaycee this comming Saturday are doing there first Show. They both are going in under Amateur in Lawrence, Kansas. I have a few questions.
Eli has nice dress black pants shoes and white shirt with black tie does he need a jacket?

Should we trim Jaycee's nails on Thursday or Friday she gets her bath on Friday?

One hugh question Jaycee been in season and not done does that mean we cannot go or what please?

Ok I think that's it for now will ask more if I think of anything thanks in advance.

  • Yes to the jacket
Either day to do nails, but I would suggest that you bathe on Thursday as gives the coat a chance to "settle"…
Being in season is not a problem in showing a bitch in season in conformation (there is for Obedience, Rally, Lure courseing etc.... as in they can not compete..), but you want to make sure that you don't hang around males and let others know that she is in season... and when she is put up on the table for exam, as the judge approaches, let him/her know that the bitch is in season....

  • Thank you Pat will do bath and nails on Thursday. Eli can wear his jacket and I will tell him to tell the judge. Thanks again.

  • Who is your judge?

  • Good luck Jaycee and Eli..I am so excited for all of you..please keep us updated..

  • Good Luck. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!

  • Tell Eli good luck, and to have fun! How comfortable are his dress shoes? I know when I was a kid, I didn't get a lot wear out of them and mine were a little stiff. And the front pockets in the jacket are handy for bait if he is using any.

I started showing right when Zoni first came into season. It wasn't much of a problem for me, I just told people around me and the judge, like Tanza said. And odds are the other basenji exhibitors (not necessarily the other breeds, though) probably already assume she is season. At the show today, every bitch except for Zoni was in season.

  • Pat the judge of the hound group on Saturday is Mr. Houston Clark we are not going on Sunday but that judge is Mr. Alvin W. Krause.

Thank you everyone it's going to be a long and short week all in one. Thanks for info on shoes Eli needs comfortable shoes since he is losing his big toe nail.

@dmcarty: Ok folks that page is great and I've used it a lot in judges education too - but that page only talks about the front - from the side view - there is a very important piece that many are missing with their basenjis - and that is the front 'fill'. Look at your B facing you - is the front hollow? is it very narrow (now if it's a puppy not too bad) Way too many B's out there have what we call 'Cathedral Fronts' meaning you could fit a church and steeple between their front legs - not visually appealing and not functional. Many times it comes with a 'front unit' set too far forward. Which again - is not functional for the breeds purpose and will impact the side gait and likely the coming at you movement in the down and back. With too little fill - animal may toe in or cross over in the front and with to much fill - elbows will be out and you may see some paddling. Just another tidbit for those looking for information Thanks for the info. So much to learn….:D Info like this would be great in a sticky. I haven't found it through reading, yet.

LOL my bad, I never looked at when it was originally posted. I just clicked on "new posts" and assumed they would be active threads - now that I look at it, I realize that the SPAM message was what made it current! I"ll have to pay more attention! glad to hear he's coming along well.
