Trogs first RN Leg

Basenji Training
  • Trog did not like the show site last month, he was totally distracted tracking his way around the ring, so we decided to skip coursing and LGRA this weekend and try a trial being held at our normal training facility. I drove Trog up this morning, he came into the bldg greeting all his friends, human and canine and went thru this rally routine with perfect little sits. Still have to work on his focus, but he passed. Hoping to make their spring rally trial and finish up the RN there. Will switch over to the untrained whippet for the next couple of trials as she is not quite as distracted by things going on in other rings.

I had two people ask me what breed Trog was and one was the judge as she looked at her sheet at the start and asked me if I was number 1112. I said yes and she rechecked her paperwork and said, is that a basenji?

@k1ng87: thanks guys! no parks for now until shes had all of her shots…should've asked before taking her as now I'm a little paranoid if she has contracted anything...if she has...when would symptoms show? Do they show fairly quickly, a couple days? That would of course depend on what she picked up. You are likely fine, I wouldn't stress about it. Just pay attention if her appetite is off or if you notice anything unusual in her behaviour, e.g. if she seems less lively than usual.

I saw a thread in Books (I think) called Basenji Owner's Manual that some of the members are saying is pretty good. Keep in mind that Lilu is part Shepherd too. She may end up with some behavioral traits of that breed as well. Surf the puppy sections too…lots of great information there.:)

some do, some don't. I was thinking about a better thing but a thin collar, because there still is a risk that the dog gets hurt for some stupid reason. I have bought some agility lead thing, as a retriever lead. But this does not work that well, if the dog is tackling the prey, so a slip lead would be a good alternative…. I think I can have someone make one or two for me, so maybe we have a new "top seller" soon. Specially Denmark is not very used to Coursing events. We do not have regular track racing under FCI regulations as here in DK you can bet on sighthound races. Coursing is quite new here and on August 8th the first national Championship is held. Next Year we hope to participate with the B's in a own coursing section, hopefully... Regards, Esther

Ok, I understand! My male lifted is leg in the house the day he sired my female, I was quite surprised and upset  , he was 4 years old! He did it for 2 years every now and then, especially when angry with my other male or during the females seasons! Then sure neutering would have been an answer! (but in France you are not allowed to compete in agility, racing or lure coursing with a neutered dog or spayed bitch then I won't do it!)
