ASFA Lure Coursing this w/e in Oberlin, OH

Basenji Training
  • Hi -

    Is anyone thinking about going?

  • I would like to. Where do I find the info?

  • Holly,

Did you get an e-mail from admin sending you my email address? I have people I can put you in touch with regarding coursing in Ohio and where to find premiums. I have a whole mess of bookmarks for coursing, but for region 7. See if you can find a region 6 website and maybe a yahoo email list. Or the coursing club might have its own website and premiums could be posted up there.

    good luck!

    Hi -

    www.lorainarearacingklub.com - that's the website.

If you want to go, let me know & I'll make certain you have good directions on how to get there.
I'm wanting to certify Trinity this Saturday & am supposed to call back Thursday morning for more details - let me know!

  • I can't really afford to go down there and take time off work, but it is tempting. My club has weight pulls up here though, so if we have some extra money this weekend that's what I'll be doing. lol

I wouldn't expect many, if any Basenji people at the Oberlin trial. You're more likely to see a few folks though at the trials in the Dayton area. (Yellow Springs, Fairborn, etc.)

There is an ASFA trial south of Detroit the second weekend of October. I'm planning on being there if you want to come? :)

Normally the clubs have practices after the Saturday trials. Unfortunately none of the clubs in our area have separate practice days. You might also think about going to some of the lira meets for straight run practices. The schedule is at lgra.org

@ibi_n_sane: yess it was a great day :D cant wait to see the pictures of Job ( Janneke's boyfriend ) that he made from our dogs too! we only took our galgo and 2 ibizans to the coursing, that gives us all our hands full enough haha the basenjis and our oldest ibizan hound can come the next time, allthough they enjoy the racing track too! ( the settlement of the racing track allows us to take all dogs at the same time and not having our hands full with these 6 haha ) I loved to see Barry (the galgo) run.. he ran beautiful…. :D And yes... I liked Cy and Smitty also... :D

@ComicDom1: Kelli, Miranda and I are interested in Lure Coursing also. We are located in IL so we will be looking here and in the surrounding states for events. ComicDom1 Jason If you are not far from the WI border, the BCOSW club is having a coursing fundraising event at Lurecoursing Fanatics on May 9th in Somers, WI. It's fenced in and it's just for fun and open to any breed. $5 for one run, $8 for two. I'm bringing Zoni so she can do a puppy run or two. The info for the ASFA field trial in Belvidere, IL is also on the BCOSW website. http://www.bcosw.org/ (go to the events page)

Yay glad to see some more local interest! As far as training, there is a group called SONG (Sighthounds of North Georgia) that does informal practices once a month or so depending on man power & weather. These practices are a great way to introduce a new dog to the lure. However, for most dogs its an instinctual thing & they don't need much training. Lola & Callie both caught on to it their first time. I just let them both watch other dogs doing it first, then let them go & they did their thing. Website for SONG: http://www.nghounds.info/index_files/Page430.htm It doesn't get updated frequently, but go to the lure coursing practice tab, scroll to the bottom & there are instructions to get on the e-mail list for upcoming practices. Hope to see you lure coursing soon!
