Are you coming Mom?

Basenji Talk
  • My husband is a truck driver and often has to get up around midnight so he heads up to bed hours before I do. Every night when he heads upstairs he will ask the dogs if they want to go to bed and they go rushing for the stairs tails wagging eager for sleep but then they stop on the first landing and turn to look at me. Coming mom? and thats it! They wont go higher. If I walk towards the stairs and put my foot on the first step they will start heading up but when I turn and head off in a different direction they run down again. Then hubby will grumble that he has to sleep alone again. Mom one, Dad zero :D

  • LOL… I hear that.... mine will follow Dad upstairs... but within 2 minutes they are back down again...

  • My 2 go visit Lou when he heads to bed early, for their nightly ear rub…then back to me until its "under the cover" time...

  • Our female goes to bed with dad and are male stays out with me. I think she likes to sleep on moms side of the bed and streach out. Ive come in a few times and found her with her head on my pillow. :)

@Patty: When I have to take those of mine that are phased by vet visits I also make sure I include an interesting walk near the surgery. In that way they know that the visit is just a stop on the way to the walk. Oh what a great idea! I'll definitely use this. Thanks! :)

sinbaje, this is why I appealed to the forum. I knew there'd be several smarter and/or more knowledgable people able to help me. The whole genetics thing is still way over my head, so I hadn't thought that Lola's mom COULDN'T be behind Booger (although yodeldogs may have explained this to me a dozen times and it didn't sink in yet)… Lola's mom was brindle I think. I know I was shown a picture of a brindle that was one of her parents anyway. The breeder's name is Carrie from what I remember. Her son's name is Destin Brown, and that's what her dogs are currently registered under (or Booger's & Lola's litters were anyway). She lived in Calhoun, GA (for all I know she's still there, but it seems she sold all of her basenjis after I explained Fanconi to her), and I know her sister helped her raise litters at her own house as well, so her sister might be named Tammy.

Leaving the US you shouldn't have a problem at all with that size of crate, they really don't care as long as the dog can stand up and looks comfortable. I know Europe is a whole different thing, I'm not sure what rules are in Switzerland, but I know for friends that traveled to Germany the dog need a hands width between the top of their head and the inside top of the crate when the dog is sitting. For the UK is completely different and no part of the dog can touch the top of the crate, another friend moved to the UK and she has a mini Snauzer (sp?) and she had to buy a crate for a small lab or golden retriever (the size 6 from the link you posted) because her Snauzer had cropped ears and even though she was leaving from the US, she was flying on British Airways they wouldn't allow this little 15 dog on the plane without haveing this huge crate. Your best bet is to call the veternairian that works for the aiport you're leaving from or the airline and ask them what the regulations are for flying with your pet. By your post it sounds like the ears can't touch the top, is this right?

The absolute worst thing about this time change (aside from the lessened amount of daylight walk time), is that Stormie and Nikki were so used to their dinner being served at 6:30 PM. Now they start pesting me at 5:00 PM for dinner and they put on those, "PLEASE MOM! We're STARVING and wasting away to practically NOTHING" eyes! Ha! Little rugrats is putting it nicely! :D ;)
