This summer we have been talking about evacuation plans in case of strong hurricanes and what to do with our dogs. There are very few hurricane shelters that allow pets, and none in our immediate area. I think there is one co-shelter, but humans and pets are kept in different areas. They advise people to take their pets to kennels, vet offices, and the like. Our boys hate storms, so I don't feel comfortable leaving them alone in an unfamiliar place. Most of the hotels only allow small animals. I think that's another thing that shows the general feeling of people and their pets. I would never leave Cody and Moe alone in a storm, much less outside like some pet owners do. I wouldn't evacuate without them. They are as much a part of my family as my brother.
