New Pack

  • What a relief to find others who lead Basenji-centered lives! We live to adore our three - Blue, a one year old red & white perfect boy, Echo a one year old tiger-stripe red brindle rescued from a tupperware box in a field, and Merlin our 5 year old Basenji-Chihuahua mix (and what a mix he is!). We live happily on the Big Muddy River in Southern Illinois and would love to make lots of Basenji friends! What a great place for info, stories, & pictures about our very Best Friends. Kingmonty, refers to Monty, our beloved Basenji who passed away one year ago from Blastomycosis. It was he that came into our lives as a "free dog" on his way to the pound. He changed our hearts forever and made us true Basenji addicts.
Thank you for this community, we hope to be able to add our love, stories, and knowledge about the breed we are all here to read about.

@elbrant That's how all my 8-some learned to catch. If food dropped on the floor - you lost it ! So they all stood on their hind legs and it was like feeding a nest of fledgling sparrows. A gentle toss of the treat and someone caught it !

Whatever she is, she's a little doll. It's nice to know that the displaced pups are finding such good homes.

@Rita: Pat yes we did get Jaycee's AKC application at the time we got her. Have not got cert back yet as we were really slow in her name made us slow in mailing. Rita Jean Great, it would be good if you gave Sally W the information for her website to update the pedigrees. Many of us rely heavily on the pedigree site when thinking about breeding and researching dogs…. You can do contact Sally at Zande Basenjis (just do a seach for her website and drop her an email with the info)....

I moved the conversation to the right thread, it must have happened by accident.

Welcome to the forum. Great story too. I especially like the description of your other dog "Betty the Sheprador Chowtriever ." That's Funny! My basenji/whippet mix also came from a local shelter. She wasn't there long enough, or perhaps they didn't know much about bs, but they only had her listed as whippet mix. Didn't take long for a dog savy friend of mine to mention the word "basenji." No doubt in my mind, she is basenji and something. I picked her out and my mother paid for her. Best Christmas present I ever got!
