Doctor Who

Off Topic
  • I love my Basenji boy, especially when he's curled up next to me on the couch…such a cutie. And he knows better than to get all Basenji-like while I'm trying to watch the 'new' Doctor Who on BBC America. Anyone here watching, or a fan? I've been watching since Tom Baker. New Doctor tonight, any fans out there?

  • I'm a Doctor Who fan (I think there are several on the forum) and I've been watching just as long. I was at a show this weekend so I haven't seen the season premiere with the new Doctor yet. Hopefully I can catch up this week. I'm a bit skeptical and hope he's good.

  • I love a lot of the shows the English produce , but not Dr Who, so much..maybe I am too old?

  • Doctor Who, I think, is the longest running SciFi show, it started back in the 60s. Before we had all of these fancy new cable channels such as BBC America (which I love by the way) it used to play only on PBS. It's kind of got a cult following in the US and never really broke out too much in the mainstream. Although you would see references to it in the Simpsons and a few other shows.

Yes, there are folks in LA that have watched this show. I find it to be entertaining in sort of the same way as my basenji boy. One must know it to ubderstand it. There is great humor (British), good story..ongoing for 47 years, and, well, just good fun.

BTW, for those fans, I wasn't sure about the new "Doctor", Matt Smith, but he "did good". Have to see the next episodes, but I'm willing 'hang with the Doctor"

Well, Sharon, I have a hard time believing that. I think it was back in 1974 when I first saw the Doctor, on a PBS channel, when there was no "cable television". All we had was an antena, and "good golly", I had to actually get up to change the channel. Gosh, I'm so-o-o tired even thinking about it. :)

  • BTW, friends, I posted a similar thread elsewhere. I want to thank you for your responses as the responses on the other thread were not so kind. Apparentley I'm a nerd/geek/loser! So, kudos to my friends in 'Basenji Forums'!

@JENGOSMonkey I WAS THERE FOR '89! I was a kid, but I remember the water coming out of the swimming pool in huge waves and everything falling from the shelves! I was actually born in San Jose, but moved around a lot later LOL I hear the wildfires are more of a concern for you guys now? That's scarier than quakes for me...

@kembe - Very True Kembe, here is a link on looking for a responsible breeder. https://bconc.org/finding-breeders-red-flags There are many scammers out there, don't fall for one.. or a person that is not a responsible breeder.

@sanjibasenji Thanks for the article on Dog Genome Project - I found it very interesting. I was trying to figure out the interactive Genome wheel. It has the basenji closely related to the Azawakh and rat terrier but I’m still trying to figure out the first wheel which has the basenji listed w/ black/grey starting point. As far as the PBS Dog Tales video - it’s very interesting - it’s season 47 episode 2 - I highly recommend you watch the whole thing (54 minutes).

@Kembe, nice post! We've gone to solid food chopped up in a food processor, but we're grinding it a bit more course as we go. So far, no puppies are choking, but good to know!

@Ashmoore92 It got put on the "back burner" ... I have some, but not enough for a book. I'll circle back around to it.
