Pet Massage Therapy

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • For my basenjis' Christmas/Birthday gifts this year I got them all a massage from a pet massage therapist. One of the members of our local racing club has a pet massage business and I talked to her about getting an appointment for Rio because she is often very tight and seems to have a hard time letting go of her stress. In the end I decided to get Rio a 1 hour massage and the rest all got 1/2 hour massages.

I am really impressed with all that it has done for Rio. I didn't realize how much tension she was holding onto until after her massage was done. She has been in a much better mood since having her massage 2 weeks ago. She plays more and her posture is much better too. I was given instructions in how to massage her on a regular basis to help keep her loose which she enjoys.

Does anyone else use pet massage?

  • Diggie has gotten a few massages. There is usually a booth at the agility trials around here. He has been known to jump up on Jim's table as we passed in order to let me know it was time for a massage.

  • I've been curious about pet massage and finding some books on it. One of the clicker training books I have mentions the t-touch method but I haven't really researched it much to know if it is a good method or not.

  • Yes, we massage our dogs ourselves.. they love it so much and when there's one ready he sneaks up between me and the one who's getting the massage :D

I learned it at school, it's called T-touch in Holland, it's healthy and the love you give and recieve is so great!

  • Buana, is it Linda Tellington - TTouch?

I don't know that for sure, it seems thats it's alike to the website.
I read a lot at the website thats it's used for some problems.
We also learned about it, that it bonds(is that the right word?) with your animan and that it's good for the muscles and blood circulations.

We learned about it a few times, how to use it on dogs, cats and horses.
It's a sort of studie here.

There is little data or studies regarding Medical Marijauna used in Animals for an alternative modality for treatment of any kind. One Article is simply not enough. I have considered trying the CBD Cream for my Back pain. There have been many studies regarding Medical Marijauna for treating Auto-Immune Diseases such as MS. One Vendor is 'Charlotte's Web' and their products are legal in all of the 50 states. I would not treat my Dog with Cancer with this stuff because it is a topical and we do not know if applying it to the Dog's skin will irritate the Cancer. Good luck and you may try feeding your Dog Vegtarian Dog Food because animal flesh and Fish encourages the growth of Cancer. My Antigone had a Carcinoma when she was 12. I had it removed and changed her diet to a Vegetarian and she lived to be 16 years old. Diet in my experience is the best way to manage a Dog or Cat with Cancer. Good luck! A

Okay, so you have a few options. The best is training him to go where you want. 1. Take some of his poop and put it further in where you want him to go. 2. Match stick him. 3. Spray the area with tick and flea spray. 4. Add some olive oil or, honest, catlax (the stuff they use for hair balls) to his food so he has a bit looser stool or ask your vet for stool softeners for dogs. I'd call my vet tech partner but she is in India with her husband. But I can guarantee you that human laxatives are a no. Plus, you can't keep using any of them or risk habit forming. http://www.vetinfo.com/dog-laxative-guide.html

Just putting it out there…check with your car or homeowners company. They may offer it but not really advertise and you might get a break on price if you are already a client. I've seen commercials for Progressive auto that says that they automatically insure your pet as part of the auto policy. Don't know any details, just a commercial I've seen.

When our Older Akita got Cancer they will only pay so much and they will not pay for some test's if they find that they do not beleive it will help. They really do not like and in some cases will not pay for blood for your dog. I am not sure I care for animal insurance. Rita Jean
