Basenji Talk
  • This afternoon we finally have a meeting with our friend who has two B'.. (a brindle girl Bushira and a red and white male Ghali)

We're going to the park with all of our dogs!
her 2 B's and our 2 B's and the Ibizan!!!

I'm a bit excited how it's going to be between the males…
Buana doesn't like Ghali very much but if there loose it goes well most of te time.
Buana is very in love with the Brindle girl Shira... :D

We'll take our camera with us an shoot some pics... when I got my hands free... ;)

  • Good luck!;)

  • So it all went well yesterday!!!

We made a big walk, chafuko ran loose with the two B's, the male growls a lot to him but they didn't had any big issues.
At a open place we met anoter B (the father of our friend has one too) and he's a bit older and a bit grumpy hihihi

All 5 had a great time, and we loved it.

Pics are coming…. but after my vacation :D

  • Glad your play date went well. Have a great vacation. I'll patiently wait for the play date pictures if you promise to post a few vacation pictures as well!!!

    Have fun.

@antalioops: Okay, I didn't mean to offend anyone. Nala has let out a "bark like" noise once or twice. 1 noise. Not a woofwoofwoof… I don't think she spelled it with a "w" or a "b". I read the selective breeding thing somewhere on the internet. I'm sure we here in the USA are not the only ones to breed for certain characteristics. I'm also pretty sure it wasn't just for the noises. Unlike hunting here with Braking & baying dogs, the game there is quite different. I just wanted to share something I read. Didn't intend to start a debate or argument. I'm a little sorry I shared at all Hey there, first off, Welcome to the forum! Don't be sorry you shared…. for like you said, po-tay-to, po-tah-to... your Nala is absolutely adorable! And in my opinion, basenjis will tease us with their capability to "roo", as many here call it! My Sophie will only Roo when SHE feels like it, and then, she will be telling the story of her day... versus my Lola, who I think can Roo, but has decided not to share... yet... :) :D Anyway, Welcome! :) My sister lives in Milwaukee with two basenjis, so if you ever want more playmates for Nala....

@Kona: Shaye's Mom - That's what I was worried about too with getting a second one, but since we got to do a trial run with Keoki I was able to calm my fears. He is so calm and trustworthy, but he is also 6 years old. Yes, I understand Keoki and Kona are doing really well - wish I'd been at West Park the day you went over - unfortunately, Shaye had been spayed the Friday before, so we missed you, and them. We have been talking with a woman who has a 7 year old Jack Russell female - of course we were going to get her dog almost a year ago, before we got Shaye, and it fell through because she changed her mind, so, who knows, but Shaye really really needs another dog, I think - older, more calm.

I think everyone who decides to have these little furbabies has to make a conscious decison that housekeeping is going to fall by the wayside in some areas. . . for instance it's not real easy to keep carpets nice and clean when they drag their treats and bones all over it! We just vacuum and count on getting in a professional cleaner a couple of times a year. Other than that, our friends just have to understand - we have a Basenji!

Sounds like a heavenly environment for pups! Yeah, I don't think I'd like to have my b named after a cut of meat either  We named Fiji to sound like her previous name Weegee and she adapted easily. If we bring Peanut home he may become Pinot. Red wine, red dog, y'know ;)

I live in North Carolina, right on the coast and we have hot, hot, humid summers. Sahara loves to sit on the back steps and lay in the sun, but only after I have frozen her with AC, haha! She hates the cold, when I got her it was still cool nights here and I had a time getting her potty trained b/c she just hated the cold weather. I could not find any dog sweaters to fit her, she was only 8 wks. old, the stores were out of them, so I got smart one night and made her one from the arm of one of my husbands hunting thermal underware. She was much happier then once I got it on her, she hated me putting that thing around her neck and legs. I have her sweaters now, got them 75% off this summer. She hates the rain also, but she has on great ocassion gone on her own to potty while it was downpouring, wonders of wonders, most of the time I have to put a leash on her and pull her outside when it is raining, she will go, but not unless I keep saying, "Go Potty, Sahara". She runs like a mad dog back through her doggie door. Can't wait to see what she does if we have snow this winter, should be interesting.
