    Does anyone know what happened to Rugosa Bs? I check the site periodically just to see what's up and look at her pictures, and apparently there was an accident and they've closed, at least temporarily. I've always loved her site - she's so devoted to the dogs and her pictures are so beautiful. Hope she (they) will be okay.

    As it says on the website, there was a very bad car accident. Vickie is recovering and doing so much faster than any of her doctors had expected but it will be a long recovery. She is out of the hospital and back home with her family and dogs.

    I talked to Vickie just the other day, and she is doing great. She is still recovering from brain injury related to the accident, but is very much getting back to 'herself'. She does have plans to be breeding again in the future, as long as her recovery continues to progress as well as it is. Good news for all of us, as she is one of the most thoughtful and dedicated breeders involved in the breed that I know :)

    Thanks so much for the info. I don't know her personally, but it's always been obvious, even through the internet, that she's totally dedicated to the breed and her dogs. I'm very glad that she's doing so well and I hope that she able to continue breeding.

    That is great to hear Andrea… thanks for posting it. Parry talks to her quite often too.... and she is a "breeder" to die for... IMO.... you could never go wrong...

    One breeder from San Diego (Rancho Penasquitos) retired from their day jobs and moved to Texas; Bob & Terry Reed of Illusion Basenjis. Another San Diego breeder (Spring Valley) passed away almost 2 years ago; Doug Joy of Basenjis of Dune. Not all reputable breeders are visible on the BCOA website. Some don't want their kennels named because they do not breed very often. You should contact the breeder liaison via email for more breeders in California and other nearby states. The local breed club for southern California is The South Coast Basenji Fanciers. They can help you find a local breeder. The quickest way to get in touch with them if through their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SoCalBasenjiFanciers Northern California also has a breed club that you can contact, BCONC.     @agilebasenji: So Breeder A said Breeder B didn't test? Personally, I'd do some homework before I'd believe what Breeder A said about Breeder B. Maybe it's true, and if it is SHAME on Breeder B! But I've learned that just because 2 people breed basenjis, doesn't mean they like each other. (And just for the record, I have no idea who Breeder A and Breeder B are.) Exactly…. and it is easy enough to check on the OFA site or Sally's pedigree site (of course that is not updated until OFA site is updated). But never go on what "he said/she said"... at least I don't... but there has been much discussion on other lists about well know breeder not testing or doing a questionable breeding with tested dogs... all pretty easily documented on the OFA site. So in some cases could be "he said/she said" with no truth to the statements..... as said, best and the responsible thing to do is check out your facts.

    Ha, ha! It is a small world. Actually, Katie Campbell is the breeder :) But yes, I co-own the bitch with her. I will post more details later :)

    @Kipawa: Boy, I will put my flame retardent suit on here before I say this - in the picture of the four basenjis, well, they look so unhappy. ALL of them. I sympathize with the breeder in that she has some medical/mental restrictions, but the look of the breeding facility frightens me. If she has medical/mental restrictions she should NOT be breeding. And I agree about the conditions of the kennels. They are dirty and unkept. And as said, if there are no papers/unregistered AKC then she should not be breeding.
