• @tanza:

Puppies are totally wood chewers.. my puppies loved to chew sticks of all sizes… but the real favorite was my catus plants...gggg I have a picture someplace of Jamari in the catus plant, teething

    ouch! 😃 😃

  • I live in a log cabin…let's just say it is a basenji's dream come true!

If I can't find Ruby, many times I'll find her in my bathroom chewing on the baseboard...usually happens if I'm busy on the computer, so she's trained me to close the door to that room. So far, she hasn't gotten very far...and that is why my favourite thing for Ruby is a bully stick. If I pull one of those out, she'll happily leave the wood alone.

  • I totally had something different in mind when I went to open this thread…

    😃

    (kidding, of course...)

    LOL! I couldn't help myself…. 🆒

  • My first two, Maggii and OJ used to strip the wall board in the laundry room when they were babies… (before baseboards)

  • Charlie loves to chew on wood, especially the pieces of fence that my mom's lab/hound mix, Bandit, bites off or the pannels my dad has replaced because of Bandit's habit. Unfortunately I think he swallows a few pieces, along with anything else small enough to fit in his mouth.

  • I forgot to mention the rocks. Mya has a thing for rocks too. She doesn't chew on them, but rolls them around in her mouth with her tongue. It's like her version of the life-saver. And I thought my kids were the ones that were going to give my grey hair!!

  • My basenji/whippet mix is about 4 years old and loves sticks!!! Chew CHew Chew!

Yes, Trixie also has a thing for rocks. She chews on them all the time, I have to take the rocks away from her but unfortunately out entire back yard has a peremeter of rocks by our fence so often we will find a pile under our patio furniture! 🙂

  • Our first Basenji targeted one post of a redwood gazebo in our back yard. He just slowly worked on it until eventually it was no bigger in diameter than a primary size pencil. We replaced the post, fearing that the gazebo would fall down when he eventually got all the way through. He loved the new post too, so we finally had to put metal flashing around it. He never really chewed any of the other 7 posts holding the gazebo up!
2 of our current Basenjis have completely denuded a eucalyptus tree of bark as far up as they can reach - but they leave the other eucalyptus alone…
What goes on in their minds???
