B Calendar

Locked Off Topic

  • So I know it's kind of late to mention this [Feb…] but how cool would it be to collect pictures from Forum members & create a Basenji calendar?!? I just have been looking through the member gallaries & find so many beautiful basenji pictures that (IMO) look much better than the ones in calendar I [almost] bought online last month.

Would people be interested at all in something like this?

We'd obviously have to pic out the photos to use for every month & would have to look into how much one would cost. I know they are less expensive if you order a large amount. Then the extra money may be able to be donated to BCOA or BRAT?

Just a crazy idea since it's Tuesday & I'm bored at work :p

  • BRAT actually does a calendar.. here is the info..

The 12 pictures below received the highest number of votes by BRAT volunteers via on-line voting in this year's calendar contest and are featured in the 2008 BRAT calendar.
We are now taking orders for calendar purchases!
Calendars cost only $13.00 each, including shipping.
The calendar project is our biggest fundraiser of the year. All of the net proceeds from the project go directly to the help the dogs.

here is the link for more info, pics, and to order one..

  • I would be in support of a calendar where the proceeds are donated to the Basenji Health Endowment. If members of the forum are interested, we can research printing costs and have a photo contest to select which photos will be used.

I think that's an excellent idea and I would support that as well.

Yes I like that idea :) Let me know if I should start some research! :)

  • Great Ideas!

Please private message us with any type of ideas for commercial or non-profit activities associated with Basenji Forums community.

We are currently working on setting up a store where you could purchase Basenji Forums related merchandise including photo calendars and tshirts.

    Thank you,

I would also support that idea:D

  • I think a calendar with the proceeds to the Basenji Health Endowment would be a great idea…. It could be done on Cafe Press and then there would be no inventory needed

  • Cafepress is pretty expensive, although they have a lot more products to choose from compared to some other similar online print shops.

  • Since Nina has volunteered to do some research on what our printing options might be, I think we should take her up on it. :)

  • I know I use winkflash to print out all my digital prints. You can upload prints & create calendars on their website for only $10-17 each (depending on the size) & then add another $3 for shipping.

  • Please PM us your findings and suggestions.

Shortly we will announce Basenji Forums community photo voting contest. Most voted photos will go into the Basenji Forums calendar and screensaver.

    Thank you everyone!

  • I think BCOA is doing a calendar for 2009…pretty sure I read that on their website...the theme is puppy pics and the deadline is end of March.

Pat, seeing as you are a board member...do you know where the proceeds from that will go or could you find out?

I am available to help in any way the admin sees fit :)

  • i'd definately buy like 10 and give them out for christmas or something everyone needs a good calendar.. :D

you can get 100 in color for $748.99
so thats like $7.50 a piece, if you sell them for 15 + shipping, you'd be donating $750 to the Basenji Health Endowment

I agree… and yes Cafepress is more expensive, but unless someone can afford to pay up front and carry the inventory and do all the mailing, it is an option. We have run into this many times especially when we did the BCONC fund raiser for the stuff toys (which by the way, Brindles are still available)...
And it was not "fun" worrying about all the shipping...

  • So many wonderful pictures, It may prove difficult picking just 12.;)

Some sort of selection process would have to be decided on.

I've used forums that have a voting feature, I don't know how we do it here.

    2 Calendars perhaps…...puppies and adults????

Just some thoughts ladies and gents........carry on.:D

  • Voting would seem to work best. Most people would be happy then.

Okay…that apparently is too short to be a message!

Oh, I was just reminded of this one this morning. The hair dryer! Whenever I blow-dry my hair, Becca runs into the bathroom to make sure that she gets her fair share of the warmth of the blow-drier. I'll dry my hair then put it on her for a bit and this cycles until I am done…..then she runs back to bed.

HAHAHA…CUTE! I need to show this to my vizsla, maybe he'll learn how to cover himself instead of standing next to me whining until I get up and raise the covers for him. Yes, he has me trained well.

Good to know about the Vizslas.. really lovely dogs - I met one at my Vet office the other day and he was a truly stunning dog. The owner told me they are super up for hiking which was a major plus. Gotta love our dogs who keep our toes jumping, heheh! Looove the Shiba-Inu story! I have been wary of the Shibas cause I have met more than a handful - and none of them turned out to be very nice with ppl out side of "their ppl". I was afraid they might be too sensitive for my lifestyle, but they are soooooo pretty!! With those coats! –if you make it over you can bring your BW =) heheh! This is just a random side comment - but in looking at a bunch of different breeders, I'm surprised that so many of them don't describe their dogs temperaments/behaviors etc. They talk about their breeding programs but not much about the dogs - seems like every real Basenji breeder's site has a page devoted to 'WARNING!' curious owners to be.. heheh! although I read this on a Husky breeders site and I had to laugh: "Left unattended for long periods of time can lead them to seeking something to take the place of that lack of attention. They may even tear something up." rephrased in Basenji terms: Left unattended for long or short periods of time will lead them to seeking something to take the place of that lack of attention..They will utterly destroy a variety of objects in your house, this is to be expected. Deal.

I may take you up on that - if I can't get in where I typically stay and am familiar with. I've stayed in a couple of dives that I'd not care to return too. Seems like even if it's 'high' season - I should be able to risk waiting until I get there to see what the weather is like - I could go down to Fort Myers - I did that once before when it was too rainy and gloomy in Tampa area. I may just get one night somewhere certain and then just decide when I get there. Doesn't bother me much but hubby is a bit less willing to risk it.
