I think that in the past 97 out of 120 years, Phil has seen his shadow.

  • And not only that, I read/heard that he is like 20lbs??? yikes, a normal groundhog is only about 1/3 that weight….

@JENGOSMonkey I WAS THERE FOR '89! I was a kid, but I remember the water coming out of the swimming pool in huge waves and everything falling from the shelves! I was actually born in San Jose, but moved around a lot later LOL I hear the wildfires are more of a concern for you guys now? That's scarier than quakes for me...

I cannot imagine committing to buy a puppy without seeing the animal and if possible the sire and dam. OTOH, a rescue (or adoption of an older dog) is a different thing. My last two Basenjis came to me sight unseen, and turned out to be wonderful dogs, but the breeders I got them from wanted to place their dogs in an experienced Basenji home, and I only paid the cost of getting the dogs to me. One came by air, one was personally transported to me by his breeder. If she hadn't been happy with what she found I expect she would have taken him back with her when she left. I also had to commit to return him if ever I couldn't keep him. Good breeders care about where their dogs end up.

@sanjibasenji Thanks for the article on Dog Genome Project - I found it very interesting. I was trying to figure out the interactive Genome wheel. It has the basenji closely related to the Azawakh and rat terrier but I’m still trying to figure out the first wheel which has the basenji listed w/ black/grey starting point. As far as the PBS Dog Tales video - it’s very interesting - it’s season 47 episode 2 - I highly recommend you watch the whole thing (54 minutes).

Thats awesome! I used to do that hike all the time when I was a kid- never took a dog with me, though. I think the five mile loop hike is the one we used to do with school once a year. Wow- I really miss that!

Jylly, as I read your post the skies are now darkening again in my area (Il/WI border) Although we are not in a flood zone, the rains have also taken their toll on us. Not only is it a heck of a good wrestling match to get our male out to go pee, but our female is afraid of the wind/trees blowing!! Aarrggg. We had basement flooding earlier in the spring. What a mess. The city lines were not totally cleaned from the fall leaf drop, then the early spring thaw washed all the sand used for ice into the sewers as well. It came at the worst possible time. All of our living room and dining room furniture was in the basement as we were prepared for new carpet to be install the following weekend. here's the rain again, 3:58 pm Last Sunday, we had a gutter clog from the 3rd level down spout to the 2nd level gutter and the path of least resistance seems to be through the fascia into the house and in the the dining room through the ceiling. I also work for a school district (librarian) so I'm home for the summer. I think this is more nerve wracking!! I think I'd rather be at work being distracted than running downstairs, or staring at the dining room ceiling like a catatonic every time it rains!!!! Good luck on the basement situation. Here's hoping you stay high and dry:D
