• Hi everyone. I've been meaning to join for a while and finally got my act togeather.

I'm Lynn, I had my first basenji, Dakota, for 13 years and he got me hooked.
I am now mom to Cheyenne and Apache, both of whom are from Stella Sapios at Astarte's basenjis Cheyenne is 4 and Apache is 2. I also have a 7 year old vizsla, Marlowe.

Cheyenne is a bit overweight, she has a thyroid problem and once she gained the weight I've never been able to get it off her. She's my baby girl. She doesn't do well with other dogs and is one of those that does not care to be pet by strangers. Once we let someone in the house and she checks them out she becomes a cuddlebug .

Apache is my first attempt at a show dog. We've only got our majors to get at this point. He's a little character and a bit skittish at times, we're working on that. I just had my first experience with an intact male during breeding season. He became a little menace with our vizsla but thankfully things have calmed down. He's the more vocal of the two and always cracks me up.

I know some of you and I'm looking forward to getting to know the rest.

  • Hello and welcome, can't wait to hear more about your three and see pictures

  • Hi and welcome…. looking forward to hearing more about your B's... and vizsla....and yes breeding season can be a real trying time....

Did you come up for the Nationals?

  • HI!!!

Once I figure out how I'll post some pics.

Yes Pat, we were at the Nationals. I was thrilled with my boy, we got second in our class and Reserve at the No Cal Specialty. You may have seen the skinny little tri…he's looking much better now.

  • Welcome to the list!

Will you be at the Palm Springs Shows?

  • HI Lisa! We're going to be there all three days. See you there?!?!

  • Hey Rivermoon, how was his DNA for Fanconi test? Both Lisa and I have Rocket Socks kids… too...

  • Unfortunately, he came back as probably affected. His littermate that Stella still has is a carrier. I hope you had better results.

  • Hey There, welcome to the forum. It's fun to network with others.

So Sorry to hear that 😞 …. I hope that he never develops Fanconi...
We have been lucky that we have had all clears.... But at least we now know and we don't have to guess with breeding any longer...

Me and my mom will be there all 3 days also.

Sorry to hear about your boy's fanconi results. I am lucky and the dam to my Rocket Socks litter is a Clear. Both of the ones I have tested so far are Carriers.

  • I hope that he never develops Fanconi…

    from your lips….

I'm glad both your results were better. I can imagine how wonderful it is for breeders to know they won't be producing any affected litters.

Lisa...looking forward to seeing you and your mom.

Yes, my lips to God's Ear…!!!

And yes it is great to finally have a test... and not be breeding in the dark using "best guess"
