    Here's a funny 6 degrees of separation story… when I was in Michigan I worked with a friend named Rob. He was there when I first was researching getting a basenji and when he and his wife met Tayda it helped them to decide to get a basenji also, 2 years later. Then they moved to Seattle and got their basenji, Max. We were just emailing the other day and he told me that Max was sired to a bitch in Ohio. And I respond with "really? who's the Breeder?" and he emails back "Andrea Walters" ha ha.

    Its like including canines in the 6 degrees of separation game! Andrea, were you in the movie Footloose with Kevin Bacon? ha ha...

    Ha, ha! It is a small world. Actually, Katie Campbell is the breeder :) But yes, I co-own the bitch with her.

    One breeder from San Diego (Rancho Penasquitos) retired from their day jobs and moved to Texas; Bob & Terry Reed of Illusion Basenjis. Another San Diego breeder (Spring Valley) passed away almost 2 years ago; Doug Joy of Basenjis of Dune. Not all reputable breeders are visible on the BCOA website. Some don't want their kennels named because they do not breed very often. You should contact the breeder liaison via email for more breeders in California and other nearby states. The local breed club for southern California is The South Coast Basenji Fanciers. They can help you find a local breeder. The quickest way to get in touch with them if through their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SoCalBasenjiFanciers Northern California also has a breed club that you can contact, BCONC.     @Kipawa: Boy, I will put my flame retardent suit on here before I say this - in the picture of the four basenjis, well, they look so unhappy. ALL of them. I sympathize with the breeder in that she has some medical/mental restrictions, but the look of the breeding facility frightens me. If she has medical/mental restrictions she should NOT be breeding. And I agree about the conditions of the kennels. They are dirty and unkept. And as said, if there are no papers/unregistered AKC then she should not be breeding.
