Bs with large animals

Basenji Talk
  • Does anyone have any input on Bs with large animals. We are hoping to start an alpaca farm and I wonder how Deke might react. Any info is fine I thought maybe someone out there has horses, cows, maybe even sheep. Alpacas are totally non aggressive, they don't even kick, so I know they wouldn't do anything to him. Thanks

My OJ loves horses…. my Maggii hated them... she would never go near them... OJ on the other hand, left to himself would have most likely gotten hurt running around them... but he didn't chase them.. he just like them....

  • I live in the heart of Amish country in central PA. Storm likes horses from a distance, but he got really skittish when he met one up close. Luckily the horse he met was really even tempered and didn't even flick a tail in Storm's direction.

  • I have Llamas and my b gets along just finr with them at 1st she did not understand them but now she gets along just fine w/ them

    That's a lovely photo. There's a lot of trust in those eyes…

Zest! loves doing this with the malinois! Always has. (although I would NOT use the word "gentle") Word of caution **With our first malinois, Z got her lower jaw caught on the mali's collar - twice. So now nobody has collars on in my house. ** I also know of a couple of different people who lost dogs due to strangulation this way. Very sad.

How true. I'm surprised no one has started Basenji Anonymous, LOL It's like pringles can't have one. Although I have just one now. I have owned Basenjsi for 30 years. I tell my dog loving co-workers about Kay-Dee's antics and they love hearing about her. She goes a lot of places with me and she has her own fan club.

@tasha: I'm fairly new to the world of basenjis. My boy is 3. So this may not mean a thing but I've never heard of 'wild basenjis'. Everything I've read and heard says that they have never been wild and have always been domestic/family/village dogs. My sister-in-law and her parents lived in Africa for quite a few years when she was growing up.(Tanzania and Kenya) They said that there were many wild, mongrel-type dogs that had basenji features in their vicinity.
