When it is summer out, the hotter the better, Ninjia just loves to be outside to sunbathe. She will lay out in her kennel sprawled out basking in the sun. Yes and she's been known to fall asleep as well. No matter how hot it is, she will want to be out enjoying the sunshine. If she cant get out, she will find the only spot of sun inside and get her "tan" indoors.:) Even if you make sure you have something for her to get some shade and cool off, it doesn't matter she has to have that sun.

All of our Bs have loved paper products too. We regularly have toilet paper "confetti" at our house, and Jubilee will sneak napkins out of unsuspecting guests' laps at dinner! He knows we will catch him so he only goes for newbies 🙂

sigh Poor little basenjis. 😞

This makes me all the more happier that I bought from a great breeder (FoPaws) who made sure I knew about the breed and who stressed returning Kipawa for any reason should things not work out (sorry Therese and Kevin, you'll never get him back! 🙂 ).

And kudos to Sharron and everyone here who patiently answered all of my questions for almost a year, prior to me getting Kipawa. With FoPaws and all of you, I knew what to expect, and I was able to determine if the antics of a basenji were acceptable for our home. And they are - we laugh at them, and every night when we first get into bed with Kipawa, we thank Therese and Kevin for all the time they put into their breeding program and the training and socialization they worked on to make Kipawa a very special little man.

2 basenjis who share eating out of two bowls…they have one water bowl by food, one in master bedroom,one outside, all same bowls all have clean daily fresh water....and they only drink out of bowl in master bedroom. they cant wait to get inside and drink from that magic bowl. weird basenjis,just weird

Yes, get her and your new boy into obedience and work to earn with treats, and getting up on the couch by you…

1 of mine would be on the couch with a compressed rawhide chew bone chewing and the other would get as close as possible to the couch and bait. The one on the couch would really growl and the other darting around close baiting. Then the one on the couch gets so mad it jumps off the couch, leaving the bone, to chase the other who runs around the coffee table jumps up on the couch and steals the bone. It's way too funny. I don't even need a TV to be entertained.

I live in North Carolina, right on the coast and we have hot, hot, humid summers. Sahara loves to sit on the back steps and lay in the sun, but only after I have frozen her with AC, haha! She hates the cold, when I got her it was still cool nights here and I had a time getting her potty trained b/c she just hated the cold weather. I could not find any dog sweaters to fit her, she was only 8 wks. old, the stores were out of them, so I got smart one night and made her one from the arm of one of my husbands hunting thermal underware. She was much happier then once I got it on her, she hated me putting that thing around her neck and legs. I have her sweaters now, got them 75% off this summer. She hates the rain also, but she has on great ocassion gone on her own to potty while it was downpouring, wonders of wonders, most of the time I have to put a leash on her and pull her outside when it is raining, she will go, but not unless I keep saying, "Go Potty, Sahara". She runs like a mad dog back through her doggie door. Can't wait to see what she does if we have snow this winter, should be interesting.
