Spoiled Pups

Basenji Talk
  • Awww! Thanks Duke!! :)

  • Wow! I thought Dash was spoiled. Those clothes are adorable. I can't believe she sits with them on.

  • I'm with BDawg..although mine don't get the spa treatment every morning :D :D My dogs do get spoiled rotten. Matching collars, harnesses, leashes, clothes, etc. etc….it's like a fashion show in my house :D My poor husband swears the dogs have more coats than he does

It's a good thing we do not have any kids because we may be considered good dog parents & bad human parents   LOL LOL LOL :D :D :D

  • I tell ya…I want to come back as a dog at BDawg's house :)

  • Ditto! I want to come back as MY dog!! :) hahahaha!!

  • I am another basenji owner guilty of spoiling their dog!! :D Hollie goes EVERYWHERE I go… including work. She has only been crated twice in 1 1/2 years. She goes to all family functions, occasionally to doggie day care, and to any and all doggie events happening locally. We take daily trips to the park to walk and also visit the dog park (during off peak hours). Hollie loves to go to Riverdog Bakery and get homemade treats and we also visit AgriFeed to get her Innovo dog food (she loves it). She has 3 furcousins that get together when we do family things and she loves them all! If I can't take Hollie with me, I don't go!! Hollie sleeps in the bed EVERYNIGHT and loves to cuddle with us. She has two leather bomber jackets, and several sweaters (including one M & M sweater that her grammy brought back from Las Vegas). She loves her collars and leashes, especially her UT VOLS collar/leash. Our next trip is to the Bass Pro Shop in Sevierville... they are DOG FRIENDLY!! Also planning on attending a minor league Baseball game, during the Dog Days of Summer!!! Hollie is well traveled for the short amount of time I have been owned by her!! :p

  • WOW…she's attached to your hip!! :D :D

Do you take her into stores & supermarkets???...Just wondering becuz we don't have alot of dog friendly places to take our pooches.

  • I don't spoil them with those types of treasures:rolleyes: , but I do go out of my way to make sure they have as much freedom and space to run in places that are fun for them.

I do love them and spoil them all with sniffs and kisses.:D

  • Dogs are just funny looking little people, LOL. They are meant to be spoiled to bits. Even though i haven't gotten a B yet i've already started a list of things I'll get it, and I know it'll be spoiled, because my boxer and cat are beyond spoiled, they eat better than me, sleep better than me (king size bed and they get 2/3 and hubby and me get 1/3, lol. I can only imagine when i get a B, i'll have to sleep somewhere else, lmao

  • @BDawg1005:

Ditto! I want to come back as MY dog!! :) hahahaha!!

    Her mind is tiffany-twisted…...her and her Senji friends.:D :D :D :D :D :D

    That's ok B......spoil em to the Max!

@jalex said in New pup!: @senjisilly i read in quite a few different places that looking at their teeth is an issue. She wont let me do anything actually but she does let me hold her. Its been a rough week. As with any dog/breed you need to be sure theyre a fit for your family and so far if she is a B I'm struggling to believe itll work out but we're trying! I appreciate the input and guidance, thank you! She's a puppy. Her behaviors are puppy behavior... period. Puppies bite, they do what they can get away with. She is darling, she definitely looks very basenji. But if you really have doubts, contact basenji rescue and let them find her a home while she's still a puppy. Frankly, I suspect you are letting BASENJI close your vision. They have quirks, but overall no better or worse than most breeds. All dogs take patience and that you be at least as persistent as they are. At her age, she doesn't get the option of "won't allow me to do anything." Without yelling, hitting or rough behavior, you really can turn it all around. Right now is the time she must learn you can check her teeth, look between her toes, check her ears, etc. At some point in life, it may be critical, so training her NOW is important. But it can also be relationship building and fun. :) Mary has one of the easiest to follow sites. You just start working on training so that she comes to see you as the one to guide her. To entertain her by helping her use her brain. It will be okay. :) Training on left, issues on right: http://www.clickerlessons.com/index.htm You have a world of help here, you can do this. :)

That sounds exactly like benji…his ears stay folded back for awhile when we get home he's so excited. And he is the smartest dog I've ever been around also. He knows what alot of different words mean just by picking up on our conversations and he does quite a few tricks when he wants to as well. And he has to be with us constantly too. The breeder had named him Wyatt so you might remember his pics and I posted some also.

Hey, I've just discovered what a 'snugglepuppy' thingy is. We found a cuddly teddy in a charity shop years ago which had a ticking clocks as it's tummy. We bought it for our puppy coming home and it worked wonders. Have used it with puppies ever since. :)

Whenever we love on Sahara with hugging, kissing her sweet face, cuddling, she will immediately get up and shake it off. It is so funny, it's like she is saying I love you guys but please I am only a Basenji, not your baby. Maybe she understand when we call her, Our Baby Girl, hehe!!!!!:D

Cory and Jayden have foam inside a pillowcase on the bottom of their crates. On top of that are dog crate beds that are wrapped in old babycrib sheets. They each have two little baby receiving blankets in the beds so they have something to "rough up" for when they make their beds comfortable at night. Sometimes Jayden gets too enthusiastic and gets all the cushions etc all bunched up in a big mound in his crate and he can't lay down. I have to remove him and completely remake the bed before he can go back in to sleep. Sometimes before he goes in his crate to sleep, he'll stand up and remove Cory's baby blankets from her crate (on top of his)….......just to irritate her at bedtime. And it does irritate her! Pat
