Little Juma loves her older sister

Basenji Talk
  • Just want to share that we have a little 4 month old Basenji girl named Juma. She is an absolutely precious little monster that keeps us on our toes. She is now the younger sister of our Norwegian Elkhound, who is 13. Juma, terrorized Delaney at first, but now it's soooo sweet to watch them play. Juma runs around and around and around Delaney, then dives in to wrestle for a little bit. Delaney gets a big kick out of the wrestle matches and plays with Juma. Juma is wise beyond her years, and really seems to respect the relationship. (It helps that Delaney put her in her place the first couple of wrestle matches). :D

  • You have got to post some pics of the two of them! Welcome to the forum!

  • I can picture them wrestling..LOL…send pix soon!!!!

My boss asked recently if I'd reached the point where I could leave my dog alone in the apartment outside the crate yet, and I told her that I didn't know if I ever would - he's a chewer and if I'm not there to watch what he's chewing, I don't know if I can trust him. She said "oh, so he can't be trained?" "He is trained, he's just a chewer." "Hmmmm…" was her reply, with a face that said "either you're a bad trainer, or he's a dumb dog." Happier note: took Paco to a dog-friendly restaurant last night, and the bartender yelled "Is that a basenji?!?!" from across the place, ran over to say hi, and went on and on about how her neighbor in the States bred them and how smart they were. :D

@Shaye's: If your baby yodels for you, your husband and your son, don't feel bad, they know who does all the work. At least Zoe yodels. My little girl has never yodeled, and on five occasions now in the past month, has barked - barked like a dog, each time when something made her nervous/scared. So depressing. I had a thread on here a couple of months back about how zoe at about 4 months had never yodeled. Someone told me to try and encourage her by egging her on. I did this until I was hoarse but I finally got her to yodel. Now she seems to be doing it more and more. We dont have a fence yet so when we are outside I keep zoe tied. When my husband gets home he stays just out of her reach until she gets so frustrated she yodels then we praise her and get all excited with her. Same with kitchen boundary. She isnt allowed so we stand in the kitchen untils she yodels (This is my problem they say I give up to quick lol) If we baroo she will usually yodels faster. My son came home today and again she ran to the kitchen door and yodeled for him right away didnt need to baroo at her once. BTW zoe also will let out what almost sounds like a bark when she is startled. Sounds alot like when you get the air knocked out of you. Or her baroo got cut short. She did it three times when kids came behind her on boards and startled her one after the other 1 burf sound for each.

Oh definitely - your pup must have been the model for the bambi! I generally just get the generic "what kind of dog will that be when it grows up"! Minnesota is a hunting state and most people have the big hunting dogs (- or the little mop dogs).

Our intent was to only be a foster home for Zeus. All in all, I think things would have improved with time. I talked with his new parents this morning and he is 90 lbs of happy! :D
