Doggie backpacks

    Hello all. I recently purchased a doggie back pack and can't seem to get it to fit. It looks kind of big (medium size) supposed to be good for dogs 18+lbs. Our B is 19-20lbs. Anyway the strands hang at the bottom..it just dosent' look like it fits. So I wanted to know if any oneelse has used the pack

    We use a backpack for our B…which kind did you get?? Not sure what you mean by big?? It should not take up his whole body but should sit comfortably on the upper part of his back.

    The one we have there's 2 straps that go across his belly & a Y shape strap around his neck...it took us a little while to figure out how it fit. We actually had the neck strap around his bottom...it looked weird LOL :D :D :D :eek: We eventually figured it out. And YES I am a college grad LOL!!

    I got the outward hound back pack. Well it covers his whole body. O.k guess I should get the small. Well i also dodn't criss cross it but still maybe I should return it for a smaller size. It said that the small fit dogs up to 18lbs and champ is 20

    Don't feel bad…I took a look at the gentle leed at the pet store and couldn't figure out how to put it on. Hehehehe! :o

    Yeah and it's not like my B is helpful. He's looking at me like what now mommy first the coat and booties and now this…how are the boys at the park gonna take me seriously..lol

    I used to hike frequently with mine, and considered getting them backpacks so they could haul some of their own water. However, when I did research, the recommendation was not to give them more than 10% of their weight to carry, which would be less than 2 lbs each for my girls. I decided I could carry that 3.5 pounds of water myself quite easily. So I don't have any recommendations, but if all he is carrying is mail, I think any of them would be fine.

    Thanks Sinbaje. That's an impressive group of dogs you have. I'll keep your message for further reference. In researching basenjis, I come across a number of abbreviations. I'm the curious type and I just like knowing. :)

    I don't keep a collar on Ava unless I'm walking her. Poor Leki's tragic accident is similar to what happened to two Goldens who lived down the street from me. They were in the backyard playing while their owners were away, and the whole block knew immediately that it was awful. This is an old thread, but there's some good info in it. Doggie daycare has been a lifesaver for me. It gives Ava an outlet for her endless energy and is good for socialization. She is a friendly girl who likes everybody– human, canine and feline. I take turns handing her off to everyone there, and so far, she'll go right to them with a hello lick. I want her to know that people are good and she can trust them. Hopefully, it will always be that way!

    @WBL: BDawg post in another link about great winter coats from Montana Dog Wear: http://www.montanadogware.com/photos.html They are nice, soft and warm, the only downside (IMO) is they don't cover the chest These were real nice. I saw one B was from Columbus. Where are they hiding?????
