• After playing in the snow…

    Home, sweet home!!

    I love my kids!

    A frosty walk!

    Valentine's Day…Our day off!

    Miles on the deck.

  • Awwww…...everyone looks so happy!

  • It looks like Miles is Home…......That video made my day B!:)

What a great day off for you all! 😃

  • They should have a Willow Tree figurine entitled "Joy" with a girl and 2 Basenji's in her arms!!

  • JOY:)

  • I hope the crating issues are resolved b/c I know it's hard when you live in an apartment. We had the same problems with our Talker when living in a Condo. He could not adapt and the neighbors started complaining. I'm so happy for your new addition! Good luck!

  • The video was just adorable. It looks like they will be inseperable - or are already!

    On Valentines day no less.:D

  • Those pics and video are great!! I love the picture of them standing wound around each other in the snow. Such camera hounds, no doubt! The video is priceless, I thought at first Miles was gonna get the best of Lexi. But ends up Lexi got in her fair share at the end! 😃

  • awesome prayer and pictures!!! fantastic!!!

  • Lord!! Miles was NUTS this morning!! He's definitely getting more comfortable in his new home. We've been getting the kids to sleep in their own beds on the floor at night. This works for MOST of the night… however, last night was a different story... Miles decides at 1am that he is ready to conquer jumping into our bed and going to sleep. Neither of us noticed him at first until I went to roll over and realized that there was a dead weight holding down the blankets. Miles?! "What are you doing in here?!" I said trying not to wake up Hubby. I tried to roll him off, but he goes into sludge mode and really acts like a ragdoll (which in turn makes me laugh instead of getting serious with him). I could not budge him. Finally after trying for a while, I just picked him up (he doesn't mind so far) and put him in his bed. He stayed until I got back in the covers... then BOING!! up onto my hubby!! EEEK!!! Miles plops down. Hubby instinctively reaches for the spray bottle and tells him to get down... No movement on Miles's part. Spray-spray-spray!! Still no movement on Miles's part. Apparently Miles is immune to the spray bottle while in the bed as he must have gotten sprayed about 20 times and didn't react at all. hahahahahaha... He ended up getting more or less tossed off the bed by Hubby shortly thereafter. He stayed in his bed for the rest of the night.

But he's definitely a MORNING DOG!! OMG! As soon as he is awake, that's it. No going back to bed. He definitely wants to go out the very first thing (unlike our little girl). I thought he was crying after my hubby left, but turns out he had to go O-U-T. I found this out after he went to his crate to pee. So on with the jacket and out we went. There is nothing but ice outside so the two dogs just slid all over. Miles had diahhrea again but you'd never know it by his spirit. And Lexi is still refusing to go boo-boo in the ice.

So we came back in and then it was INDIANAPOLIS 500 EVERYWHERE!! OMG, it was just getting to be 7am on Sunday morning. I'm sure my downstairs neighbor hates me now. Miles is 28lbs and makes QUITE a thud when he jumps down off the bed. He was flying all over the house as I tried to catch him... I stuck out my arm to clothes-line him but NO!! He LEAPS into the air and flies over me!! Great Scott!! WTH, I thought! He's gone nuts!! 🙂 I finally caught him and held him in my arms to calm him down. Phew!!

That ice better melt soon so we can go back to taking runs!!

  • I can just see Miles as a "spring" - boing, boing, boing! 🙂 So happy that everyone is adjusting and happy (well, except for the downstairs neighbors! lol!).

  • Yes, every time I see my downstairs neighbor, she always tells me how she "heard the feet" (as they put their claws in the carpet to turn the corners)… And I always say, if it ever bothers you, please let me know... and she says, "no, it makes me laugh"... but I doubt that. She just lost her elderly dog about six months ago. I'm sure it reminds her of him, but it's got to be annoying at the same time. Poor thing.

  • This is a great story Bdawg. Thank you for sharing it and for the great photos also.

  • I'm glad you guys are enjoying it!! 🙂

  • After much work on getting my 20 minute video into a shorter length film- and having to convert it into a different format… I finally got the Day 2 video clip online.

This video is of Lexi (background) and Miles (foreground) during the 2nd day we went to work and crated them. Lexi just kind of chirps/whinnies with her back to us in the background, but as you can see... Miles does NOT like the towel on top of his crate and about (6 minutes into the surveillance) 3 minutes into the online video, he begins to HOWL!! So if you have a quiet dog, here's the polar opposite!! 🙂 He also very cleaverly tries to open the bottom lock on the crate... I better watch this one!

I had to edit the clip because it was originally very long. I put together the funniest parts. Sorry it was so dark. And it has that stupid phrase on top of it. That's what happens when you try to convert with free software!!

Anyways, we leave an ambient light on for them and have soft music playing in the background (although the camera did not pick it up). They also have peanutbutter kongs in their crate, but you'd never now it.

Feel free to chime in if you have any story to add!! 🙂 Now you can see why howling is NOT cool in an apartment complex!! YIKES!! And don't try turning your speakers down!! mwhahahah!

  • Surely someone watched this…?!?!?!?

  • I just watched 🙂 Honestly...<> that isn't really bad at all! He doesn't seem that stressed at all...just expressing his discontent...did he do it the whole time you video taped him? I would get a clip for the top and bottom of the doors though. I have heard of dogs getting their heads stuck when they can get the edge pushed away.
One year when we went to the benched show in Detroit, when people asked 'what do they sound like?' we would list all the normal vocalizations...and they would say 'they scream? what? what does that sound like?' So then we would put Querk in his crate, and he would scream his head off until we took him out!
Another cool related story. At the National Specialty each year (hundreds of basenjis) they often all howl like that at the same time. One will start and about 80% will join in. It is so loud, sometimes you have to stop your conversation! None of mine howl, sadly...I kind of like the sound. EXEPT when the girls are in heat, and we try to put Querk out in the yard by himself he will howl...right up until he starts ripping the siding off the house 😉

  • This will be his first full week doing your routine, he should be even better by the end of this week.

    He is loud…..but cute.:)

  • I love the low - what I call the "pigeon cooing" sounds in the beginning and throughout…Nala does it too! Not too bad though...I expected a lot worse. My neighbors say that we should tape the noises Nala makes for a horror movie!!
