New baby sister (actually daughter!)

  • Hi All,

It has been a looooong time since I posted. Sherri and I were owners of Shaun and Mbali in Seattle. Shaun was a champion around 2010 or so in Washington state.

Shaun just turned 16 and is doing great. Sadly we lost Mbali to cancer last fall, shortly before her 15th birthday.

We spent a few months recovering from the loss before mentioning it to Shaun’s breeder. She offered us a 4-year-old female that she was not going to breed. The main reason is that little Karma is Shaun’s daughter! All of this was a total surprise and happened very quickly. Karma is slowly settling in to her new life as a pampered house pet.

We have had a couple of scares with the clasp on Karma’s leash failing so we are researching the best option for a Basenji proof leash/collar/clasp system. Will start a separate thread on that.

Here is a very recent photo of Karma and Shaun at Doe Bay on Orcas Island (Washington state)…

Hi everyone, Thanks for all of your replies! Rex just had his first vet visit (first with me at least), and he was given a clean bill of health. The vet that I saw also agrees with a lot of you that he looks like a Min Pin more than a Basenji, but he is likely still mixed with something because he's a bit too big to be a pure Min Pin. I've looked at a few DNA Dog Breed tests online, and they seem to range in price and in quality. It seems like some of the cheaper (~$50) tests are fake, but they go all the way up to almost $250 for the higher quality ones. Do any of you have experience with these DNA tests / have a brand you found reputable? I'll be sure to post the results of any of the tests with this forum! Thanks again, and Rex is doing really great in his new home!! [image: 1559586518913-img_3707-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586546977-img_3720-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586568474-img_3708-resized.jpg]

Otis, or should I saw my Dachshund Gus, thinks stuffing is unnatural…the animals should be sold without them, and squikers (SP?) too. Both of them love the animals once they are limp, unstuffed, just the stuffed animal skin...that is when they are the best..In Otis' and Gus' humble opinion..

@Buana: Wow! Definately ment to be…. Are you going to visit her brother once in a while? We'll definately be getting together for play dates. Mya will have to endure their terrier attitudes though. I'm sure she can handle her own!

I do most of the dog walking, winter almost always just me. I could not handle three on a walk! I agree a male & female is perfect. I would still love to own a brindle and a black & white, maybe the next pair. I also agree I dont see myself ever being basenjiless.
