As long as the cat keeps well out of the dog's way ! Most learn to do that pretty soon after the Basenji arrives - I have seen a Basenji shaking a cat, much like you would a feather duster.

@amys112 Hi! I’m right near them , in Taunton, MA! What’s the best way to reach them? I completed their application online but did not hear back.

Hi, welcome. Do you have any photos of Tom to share, we all like photos. Lot's of great information here on the forum and helpful people if you have any questions about the breed. My dog Kaiser(10 months) went through his second puppy stage at around 7-8 months and did a little destruction mainly his poor toys but is overall turning out to be a good dog. My best advice would be if you see a bad habit starting stop it as soon as possible other wise it could be a losing battle. Enjoy your pup. Jolanda and Kaiser

Pat, you're absolutely right about Sally. As in the USA I think that most responsible breeders here have contracts which can include endorsements. When we talk about endorsements here we usually mean those placed on the puppies at initial Kennel club registration. These typically are 'Not to be bred From'. these endorsements can be removed at any time later in the dog's life. I don't know if you have that system there? Archaft, I can't see any reason to object to a puppy having it's papers endorsed. Its usually a sign of responsible breeders after all. Its no reflection on the prospective purchaser. I reiterate all that Kipawa has advised too. I would always advise prospective first time Basenji purchasers to visit Basenjis in their own homes where you can. Derbyshire is not all that far away from me and I welcome you to visit at any time to see Basenjis at home. I no longer breed so have no agenda only to ensure that people know what to expect from typical Basenjis.

@lvoss: This is not true Eldorado's Bejeweled was last CERF'd July 2008, that test is valid for 12 months so she would not be expected to be tested again until July 2009. http://www.offa.org/display.html?appnum=1210648#animal Eldorado's Barcelona was last CERF'd June 2007, so is due to be retested but has been tested multiple years. http://www.offa.org/display.html?appnum=1057756#animal Eldorado's Hocus Pocus was last CERF'd June 2007, so is due to be retested though she was tested last at 9 years of age so at least you have some idea of how her eyes aged. http://www.offa.org/display.html?appnum=1057755#animal Eldorado's Bejeweled is my girl Ruby and I was present at her CERF. Eldorado's Barcelona (my girl Ruby's mom) crossed to the rainbow bridge last fall. I believe she was 11 years old.
