Oddly enough, there is another person in Spain needing to rehome their Basenji puppy. The fellow's girlfriend does not like dogs. The topic is "Basenji puppy for adoption (Spain)" and the guy is @Luc21. Hope you can contact him.

As I've said several times in different threads - Covid has brought out a plethora of would-be Basenji owners, not just in UK but across Europe. We are starting to fear dogs being dumped into Rescue when lockdown is lifted and people return to work in offices , having realised there is far more to owning a Basenji than just the facts that they don't bark, are small and keep themselves clean like cats. I have had well over 70 - probably 80 now the weekend's crop of enquiries has been dealt with per email and entered into my notes - and am at a loss to be able to tell them of a single breeder who doesn't already have a waiting list full to overflowing. Anyone posting me privately will receive a detailed response but it won't carry too much hope for this winter.

Post me privately (after you have read my website (thanks for the plug, Redial !)) and I will sendyou a list of the Breed Club secretaries. There are quite a few litters on the ground this winter bit I imagine most are sold or at least bespoke. You may need to get on a list for next season.

Thank you for the input eeeefarm, that is exactly what I'm planning to do once ive done some more research.i have been around many different breeds of dogs over the years but never owned one myself so I have a fair bit of knowledge about most breeds and I would never put my children in harm's way or any dog for that matter. If I'm not as sure as I can be about my family's ability to love, look after and train a dog we won't be having one. This is why I got onto this forum to gather as much information from owners (like your good self) and others who have bothered to read my message properly,as I can before we go ahead and take on a very large commitment.

My gut feeling is if you can't find a dog who is utterly good with cats already, your best and safest bet is a puppy. I suggest you get on a couple of breeder's list and wait for the perfect pup for your house.

If funds are an issues, you can do what I used to do before BRAT came along. Find out the vet of the family your placing him with, have the family pay you for your expenses and then take the dog to the new familys vet for the surgery to be fixed. Drop the dog off the day of the surgery and then new owners pu the dog. They get to pay the bill. That makes sure the dog is fixed, sets up a new vet record for the new dog in the family, and you don't have to pay anything out of pocket. Mostly, you know the surgery WILL BE DONE. Thanks for making sure he is fixed before rehoming. That is so important.
