It makes you wonder if there should be a petowners licence as there is a drivers licence??
In need of some support
-
Hi everyone I know I haven't been around here much but all the help and tips I've gotten in short time show that this is a place where we can truly count on one another and I'm happy to call this a second home ! where all my questions get answered and doubts are resolved by searching other ones topics :),
Now to the not so great reason why I'm on here wanting emotional or whatever kind of support I can get
As most of you already know I'm from Vancouver, BC 25 yrs old and newly married and proud owners of the cutest black and white basenji named Fortuna :), my husband and I met at work 4 years ago ( we used to work at the local race track as grooms for the same boss) so after 3 years of working together we began a relationship - he is originally from Mexico and had been coming up here for the past 7 years to work . I was born here but my parents are from Mexico and Cuba respectively , thus I speak fluent Spanish - so the relationship continued and this year after returning from a winter in Mexico (I had always saved up enough to go and return home -we stayed at his parents home ) we decided to apply for permanent residency and a visa extension on his tourist visa on which he is of course not allowed to work .
I was lucky enough to get work as soon as we got back in February , But I was short lived becuase in May the 27th to be exact I was kneed in the face by one of the horses (my fault but it was something that scared me and made me re think my life and goals ) on that I quit and decided to return to school to obtain a veterinary office assistant diploma , while at the same time I have been trying like mad to find a part time job that will help me cover the costs of money owing to the immigration consultant (I was successful enough to pay $3,200 already ) a $1,300 debt remains , and my dad recently stopped working due to a small bladder tumor that had to be removed , I'm beyond stressed .. And I have already put up my iphone 5 (which has a cracked screen ) and my iPad 3 and Julio's iPad 2 for sale , and we might even have to sell the car for $1,500 becuase it's going to be pretty hard to pay insurance ( I also have no idea when my student loan is going to come in to pay for school )
So more stress , all I would like is some kind words if possible that's all I ask for I don't want to be a charity case or to be felt sorry for . -
You're in a tough situation, but when one door closes usually another one opens. You just have to look for it! Do you really need the car? If you can get around by public transit, you might be able to save a fair amount of money, and you can always rent a car for the day or weekend if you really need one. (most of us have cars for convenience more than necessity, unless we live out in the boonies where there are no other options, but it costs a lot to keep one running!) Best of luck to you!
-
Thank you ! For your kind words and yes if worse comes to worse we will put the car up for sale we where already debating it before
-
obviously you are resilient and have a sense of humor ( you have a basenji, after all). I think that when the gods favor someone, they test them.
Do you need job ideas? I love being a groomer and often places will be looking for a bather or someone to prep the dogs. that would be helpful in going into the vet tech field. otherwise, try local vet offices or ask around at your school to see if anyone needs a teacher's aid or ??? you may also want to see if there is a counselor to help with jobs and student loans.
-
Have you tried employment at a Vet office that you have explained that your are going to school? They might be more inclined to take a student that might work into a regular job when you finish.
-
Thanks for the advice yes I've applied to soo many jobs even as a dog bather to prep for grooming :), heck even tim hortons and McDonald's !
But I haven't even heard a response yet from anything , I do already have some money from selling my ipad 3 and iphone , so just the iPad 2 and if it's get really bad the car up for sale and yes a sense of humor is something i do have , we have a lot of haha guess that's how we've gotten so far when it hasn't been so easy -
Hope things start to fall into place for you soon, in the mean time keep positive and spend time doing things you love with your loved ones and I'm sure Fortuna will help with that. Good Luck.

yes I will definetly. Keep positive on everything and Yes I have applied to vets clinics saying I am a student ( I don't even start school for another week and half actually !- July 7th is the first day )
-
what about advertising on craigslist as a dog walker?or, heck, pooper scooper. check you local area and see if you need a business license, but that would be an easy start up.
-
I'll give that a try and see what works out good thing is I might have some people interested In the iPad and iphone which is a plus might make it to my half way mark with that !!
-
Another thought for jobs in the summer is dog/house sitter, if you can manage to leave your own overnight. Around here that pays $40/$50 per night, and is an alternative for people who don't want to kennel their dogs. I have dog walkers for when I am out of town, and they get $15 per walk, and seem to have lots of business.
-
A good friend worked her way through school cleaning homes with a 'Merry Maid' sort of company. You do need a car for that but as a bonus she learned how to clean her house completely in under 2 hours! Dog walking/sitting is good too, again, you may need your car for that. Best of luck to you.

If you were in the USA there is lots of financial aid assistance for students, but Canada I have no idea. Glad things are coming together. I also know nothing about getting a Permanent visa when there on visitor one. Here they often require you to go back to your country, apply and wait. I know Canadian writer Joe Mallozzi has a girlfriend from Japan who has been on visitor visa. They've been together several years but the process to get her a permanent visa took them over a year. Hopefully you can get that done quickly so he can work.
I spent about 6 mos working as a groom for a stable in my mid 20s. I found it hell. As an avid horse lover, the things they do to horses are appalling. Of the 10 hotwalkers and 12 grooms only one other person and I had ever RIDDEN a horse. But I had dreamed of horse racing thanks to the old Black Stallion books, so I took off a bit of down time to try it. I am glad you have taken another career.
I hope your father is doing better. And that you are proud of how you are handling so many life changes, stresses and things because far from "pity", I find you admirable!

Debra thank you for positive thoughts
And yes here in canada all we get are federal loans and provincial loans , it still only covered the cost of my tuition which is something
And we did sell the car to help with a few things , and here in canada people either go back to there country or apply from within the country but they must always have a valid status , visitor visa , work permit , student etc .. if we're lucky by September we will have some news from Canada immigration that he is eligible for a open work permit
My dad is doing better now , he went in for a check up with the specialist and yes the tumor was cancerous
so he will have to go back in 3 months again to get checked out , and etc so keep track of things
I can't wait to finish school and get a job - and even start back again with horses -ha probably end up taking a a equine sciences diploma program online afterwards ,
And yes I worked at the track some things they do are horrible , others are great and take amazing care of them it's a hit and miss !
