Anyone have trouble not being able to sleep if the dogs aren't in bed with you?

Basenji Talk
  • I am so used to having my Basenji Khalani and my Minpin Kosana in bed with me. Kosana curled up next to my stomach, Khalani curled up behind my knees. It's like a dog sandwich with me, the meat, in the middle. I am unable to move, I usually wake up sore and stiff because I can't turn over but I wouldn't have it any other way. In fact I can't sleep if they aren't there.
    Anyone else have this problem?

  • It takes me a while to fall asleeep anyways, if I'm not in my bed. I call myself the meat in the basenji sandwich! We all have our assigned places in the bed.

  • HAHA I have a different situation, my husband usually HOGS the bed and steals all my space and tries to share my pillow with me! I love it when my basenji sleeps in bed with us, because my husband stays in his spot! Is that silly?

Thanks Humanoid. I L'dMAO. Great idea with the home made wood bed. I still can't praise the Duluth Trading Company beds enough. Katie proof (a bed digger), and Tyler proof (exposed stuffing of any kind is fair game). 6 years and the bed is still in use. Washable outside and re-stuffable inside pillow (inside only replaced once due to a basenji/skunk incident) After 5 or 6 dog beds, this one is a keeper for me.

HA HA HA HA HA HA!!! That's hysterical… Ode is quite the athlete. He has perfected a standing leap from the floor to the kitchen counter, 3'2". This is my favorite part! I too emailed my breeder sharing this info with them. I couldn't believe it until I saw C3 UP on the table with NO running start LOL!!

Oh WOW, you guys are sooooo helpful. Thanks DDS for the link, that was especially helpful. I'm just intrigued with this breed for some reason, and I'm not sure why. Reading what all of you have to say is better that the typical things that you read on the computer. They all just repeat the same thing over and over where as all of you can give me personal experiances. I know all puppies are a lot of hard work, but compared to other dog (which I see some of you have had other breeds) are they actually a lot tougher? All pups like to chew and get into trouble but are they especially hard to train. Lets say with housebreaking and such? Oh and for all of you that have cats too, do they stay out of the kitty box or are the prone to make there way there, if you catch what I'm saying. I read they they are very clean and often times will clean themselves like a cat does. Really? And they are aloof like cats? Soooo much info and I would rather hear all of this from you than get false info. HELP!!
