I ditto the sentiments above. Although I have not been tremendously active I do appreciate all the valuable information that is shared here in the Forum. I often come here to answers to my questions or concerns about my 2 B's - Dwjaad and Camerou. aka - Jenga and Rudy.
They have both turned 1 years old this month and I am happy to reach this milestone. We passed the year without too much damage to our house and contents when I look at some of the photos on the site. Wow have we been lucky. They are lovely boys who follow me everywhere. Jenga is so fast and it is such joy to see them running through the fields of snow with our german shepard in hot pursuit. They love to play and run in our creek!
I know I will continue to come here to find out more about Basenjis. Thank you everyone and a happy holiday to all.
Two New Books for me!
-
I'm on my way to the post office in the U.S. to pick up a copy I found of Goodbye My Lady. I know a number of you have read it - I will have a few tissues beside me just in case. The other book I am keeping for a little trip I am taking next week for 5 days is August Magic by Veronica Anne Starbuck. It's about a lady who rescues a basenji. At this point I don't know much else, and don't want to until I read it while on vacation. There is a lovely photo of a b on the front cover. I'll review the book after I have read it.
Regarding Goodbye My Lady, I had no idea that Walter Brennan starred in the movie. One day I will try to get my hands on the movie. If anyone has seen it, was the dog in the movie really a basenji? Or just some sort of mixed breed they made to look like a basenji?
-
I have a VHS of Goodbye My Lady.
The dog in the movie is indeed a basenji. Isis of the Nile. She makes all kinds of cool noises and is a beautiful representation of the breed!
Haven't read the book but the movie always makes me cry!

better still, the movie has Sidney Poitier; looks like you can get the VHS version at amazon; i doubt there is a dvd version.
And there is a follow up short story to the Goodbye My Lady book. I have it in a book called Dog Stories for Teenaged boys and girls, or some such.
-
Oh, and check out who produced the movie!
-
actually there was not just one basenji, but five that played Isis. Three males and two females. The young boy ended up keeping the main female basenji.
And August Magic has a sequel if your interested. -
Oh, I certainly will look to read the sequel! Do you know the title?
-
I have just check out Good Bye my lady at the library. I am sure that I am going to love it, I will let you know
-
Goodbye my Lady has also been on TV, the remastered version of the original. Loved the movie because of the basenji -
-
I have got the video Goodbye my Lady and also the book August Magic. Made me cry, such a beautiful story.
Have you read the book Heart of the Savannah ? Need also tissues with that one, very beautiful story.
It is a story about a basenji stolen as a puppy from her village. -
Goodbye my lady is a lovely film.
Have read both Heart of the savannah and august magic.
August magic i think was written first and then she wrote heart of the savannah which is actualy a prequel. I don't think it matters which you read first but i enjoyed august magic more.
Have also read the basenji prophecy ,it was ok but a bit weird -
Reading is very good activity. It increase our knowledge and vocabulary. I suggest to some books like P.S. I love You, Piranha and Horror fairytale world. I hope you like it and enjoying reading.
