I think that a basenji puppy and a two-year-old is a recipe for disaster for many reasons. Both require and crave lots of attention, neither one can be reasoned with, both will want to play with the same toy, both can be stubborn, and the list goes. It is far too much to expect a two-year-old to understand how to get along with any puppy, especially a basenji puppy. If your heart is set on a basenji puppy, then I think you should wait until your child is at least five or six years old.Children that age understand what you are saying about the puppy and you can explain to them why you are saying it. I agree with the person who suggested getting an older basenji or how about a puppy of another breed? t one time in my life I had a basenji and a mixed breed, and they got along beautifully.
You may love all the traits of this breed but I was suggest that you talk to owners and their experiences with the basenjis and young children. One cannot count on even the best breeders to give you the full story. Please don't get me wrong. I've had three basenjis and adored them all. I got the first one when my youngest daughter was seven. You don't have to wait that long but two years old is too young, imho. Good luck.
WANTED: Basenji Puppy in the UK

Hi Suzanne, Black & White litters a very few and far between in the UK as they are not as popular as the red & whites or the tri colours. Can I just ask why you don't want one with any endorsements on?
-
I'm not sure why you're worried about endorsements either. They can show that the breeder is responsible and would like to make sure that prospective owners are suitable. Endorsements can be lifted at a future date.
Welcome to the forum - I don't think I said that in my previous posting. It's always good to hear from other UK members.
-
I agree it shows that the breeder is responsible and i agree that all new owners should be vetted carefully i'm sorry if that offends.
-
I agree it can show that the breeder is responsible and i agree that all new owners should be vetted carefully, but i would like no endorsements i'm sorry if that offends. If any breeder wants to know more about me and i hope that i can show them that i am a responsible owner and i would never do anything to harm my dogs nor would i if i so chose to breed do so with out the relevant health tests and careful vetting of the potential mate too.
Thank you Patty for your welcome and again im sorry if my views offend.
No offence taken here that is what has worked for me so is what I will continue to do and if people are not happy with that then they can go else where for a puppy.

That was a foster litter that i fostered for a friend whos pregnant wife was rushed into hospital that i cared for and sold on their behalf. All ppl that had one knew that. I didnt realise you get penalised for trying to help someone, you dont know me and therefore you cannot judge me. All our dogs are family pets and if you would like to know more about me and my home life them please do ask or give me a call.

basi, and i completely respect that.

I am sorry to hear about your friend's trouble, but like you said yourself, potential puppy owners will be thoroughly vetted. And as you have emailed me looking for info about my pups, I too have thoroughly checked you out. All my puppies leave here with all endorsements so I am afraid that rules me out too.
I wish you luck in your search for a Basenji pup. -
Hello archaft,
What does it mean to have or not have endorsements? -

My sincere apologies Suzanne, I could have sworn I saw a post by yourself advertising a list of newborn 'Spoodles' in Derbyshire. My mistake.
Thank you for you apologies, but like i say you dont know me, all you have done is googled me and seems to me that you really dont like me or my feelings about the no endorsements. If you would like to know about me - Im married, my husband works as a supervisor, im a mum of 3 boys and currently have 4 dogs - all family pets. I run a group on facebook for people with animals - They a great bunch in there and running the group in my spare time is fun and ive met some truly amazing people. I would like to show a couple of my dogs and its an interest im currently exploring how to get into that, one of my dogs im currently training in agility (which she loves but it leaves me in a out of breath wreck at the end of it LOL). Now for me if i cant prove to a breeder that im a responsible dog owner who they can trust to love and care for the life they have brought into the world and that the choices i make weather i want to show, compete or in the future breed then if they feel i cannot prove that i can provide the proper care or do the job responsibly then obviously i need to know what i can do better, and it doesnt matter what i do, my dogs health and care are the foremost in my mind. My dogs are all family pets and no matter what i do with them they will always be that, they will continue to be given the best they are an important part of my family and i wish i could convince you of that. Im sorry if me and my views offend you. When i placed the ad i hoped that it would be fair that i told everything i was looking for.
again im sorry if me and my views offend anyone

If your possible future puppy is to be a family pet and family pet only, I don't understand why having endorsements on the registration matters to you. Why does it? Do you plan to breed without the breeder etc knowing? Do you plan to cross breed it? If so, why? (Although I have my own guesses there). I'm just curious really.
If it was me, I would be really pleased the breeder had endorsements on their pups and vetted potential homes and people very carefully. If only more breeders did so.
Too many people breeding too many dogs from unhealth-tested, unregistered and, quite frankly, unsuitable dogs whether that be in temperament or otherwise. And don't even get me started on cross-breeding purely to make a few quid and supply the pet market with thier "designer dogs" with ridiculous names. Believe it or not, they aren't new or rare breeds, they are mongrels! Loads of them in rescues everywhere.
Don't get me wrong, I love my crosses - I have a lovely one - but they will always be rescues.
How long have you wanted a Basenji for?
I've been longing for a Basenji for a few years now but the time and situation isn't right, so I get my 'fix' from other peoples just now, as mad as that sounds!

Nicola - it doesn't matter what i say or do everyone has made their mind up already - even though no one knows me. I really didnt mean to offend anyone nor did i expect to be harassed.
