Dogs diedfrom dog treats

Basenji Talk
  • picked this off of a post on facebook

it was on Fox news earlier that 70 dogs have died as a result of eating chicken jerky treats made from chicken that has come from China. Kingdom Pets brand from Costco is one of them. Also certain Blue Buffalo brand pet foods have a recall for the same thing. Please re post and make sure all your doggie friends are aware of this plz share

  • Rather old news since there have been ongoing issues and Canada issued warnings months ago. Really makes me mad they took so long to acknowledge it here.
PLEASE be careful about spreading stuff that is not true… Blue buffalo is not involved!

The FDA issued a press release on November 18, 2011, describing its concern about what it described as ?an increase in the number of complaints it received of dog illnesses associated with consumption of chicken jerky products imported from China.? BLUE was not mentioned by the FDA and was not involved in any way in any of the incidents described by the FDA.

Here is the link to the press release http://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/NewsEvents/CVMUpdates/ucm280586.htm.

Nevertheless, from there, some individuals, irresponsibly, or maybe maliciously, posted on various websites that Blue Chicken Jerky was the subject of the FDA?s concern. Our team spent much of the Thanksgiving weekend just trying to rein in these false rumors.

If you are reading this, we know that it is because you are responsible enough to want to investigate the truth of this matter for yourself. We thank you for that. And we would be most grateful if you would share these facts with any of your web contacts who may have been misled by this rumor campaign.

Love them like family. Feed them like family.

  • If the dogs are having similar symptoms as in the previous years, they need to be treated ASAP! It is my understanding that many are developing the acquired Fanconi Syndrome and need to be put on the protocol. Many vets though do not have the equipment to do the venous blood gas test and get an accurate diagnosis. Emergency vets should have the equipment.

Do not buy any dog treats that come from China and if the package does not state where it is from then do not buy it!

I have had a couple stained glass made, but there is normally a 3-4 month lead time as the artists are already booked up for Xmas this yr. Most of the artists on etsy will be booked this late in the yr, I had two quilts and a needle felt made a couple yrs ago and I placed my order in June in order to guarantee Xmas delivery. If you have a nice photo, there is a company called treasure knits that does wonderful woven afghans out of a photo with about a one week turn around. I have had both afghans and pillows made from photos as xmas gifts from them and they do great work.

Jaycee digs same way but she does somersaults head down over she gos first time neighbor saw it they could not beleive it. I think neighbor came over every day for a week waiting to see it again and Jaycee would do it. Yes I very much second that digging usually will cause the great B-500. Rita Jean

When Cory and Jayden get into something special (in their eyes) that they suspect they aren't supposed to have, they go and hide in a chair so they can examine it and chew it in private. There is no "Let's go show Mom!". Often Cory will rat Jayden out. She will make such a fuss that I've learned to recognize her "tattling" ruckus. If I want to get on the computer, I have to secure them in the room with me or put them outside. If not, Jayden WILL find something for them to get into. He is tall for a basenji and I swear he can use his front paws like hands! Pat

Owning a basenji requires a good sense of humor and a large dose of patience and a willingness to do some creative thinking to convince the basenjis what you want is really the same thing as what they want. So true, never a dull moment with these dogs

Tucker goes through 3 or more rawhide 'bones' or the flat rolled 'bones' in a week. He loves them and has never had any problems. The vet told me that there's no reason that he can't have them as long as they don't cause him any problems, most of which would be noticable (choking, intestinal blockage, etc). He's never had any problems. I gave him one of those dark colored pig ears once and he bit it once and it shattered into tiny needlelike pieces. Never did that again.

Funny how good training pays off and makes you proud of the little rascal. Family who've seen Duke in action when he was younger couldn't believe I got another one like him (Daisy). I am a so proud of Duke. Daisy is coming along OK, but we're still going thru all the training . . . it pay off big time.
