    Hello Everyone! My name is Amber and I have recently been owned by a basenji named Paso. I grew up with Basenjis and just adore them. Paso came from Bryan and Laurie at Jumoke. He is a 2 and a half year old finished champion. My husband is active duty navy, I grew up in Alabama. My mother lives there with her basenji duo (a tri colored brother/sister pair of finished "Undercover" champs). I have a three year old son and am currently in college to be an RN. I am looking forward to being a part of the basenji community.

    Welcome! My name is Angee from Brisbane Australia and my husband Lance and I have just been adopted by a 2 month old Basenji we call Bandit and already he's living up to the name!

    We also have a 2 year old Lowchen we call Alfie the clown and he's being climbed over and bitten by the new arrival - Alfie is taking it all in his stride and has begun playing with Bandit.

    Hi John! My Binti will only consent to have her nails ground and only with treats (she gets one per paw.) She hated it at first but once we had the routine established, she settles right into it. The only thing I would say about using the grinder is keep pausing to feel the claw. I once had a "groomer" who was in a hurry hold the grinder to Binti's claw too long and the friction built up heat which burned her enough to make her yip.     a few pics of the kids added to photo album… i can't figure out how to add to the post. hummmm i'll work on that. as a side not Jasper was selected as a Demo dog for the Dog expo June 11-13 at Cal Expo.

    Thanks for your warm welcome! I'll ask my daughter to take some digital pics of our Sheba to post! We'll try to get some good forehead wrinkles – when she's got those terrific ears up and forward! Her tail's straight and droopy, though -- that's where the "mix" really shows! So far -- she sometimes reminds me very much of a cat (I know far more about kitties than basenjis.) Even the way she bats a tennis ball about -- "soccer-style" -- is quite feline. But she is NOT aloof. She's definitely a people pooch! A snuggler. I am delighted she's joined the family. Will post pics soon, I hope -- Thanks -- Sheba's Mom

    @youngandtired: Hi! Welcome to the Basenji Forum, this is a great place for chatting about our furbabies, and getting information. So, your baby is 4, please tell me that they will stop chewing, and surfing the tables. My Sahara, would be just great if she didn't do this. I love her just the same, but I have lost things I can't get back that she has chewed. My Basenjis right now range in age from 12 1/2 to 15 3/4…. :p They still surf, however they have pretty much stopped chewing... :D But that is just cause they are old.... and the teeth are not as great!

    Hi and welcome! When you let her out, I hope you are out also. Sadly, underground fencing is very dangerous… call the closest 10 shelters to find how many dogs they pick up with collars. They get excited, run through it, then can't come back. Also, while it might normally keep your dog in, it won't keep others OUT. But with supervision, they are GREAT so that they get freedom but you are there if a problem arises.
