Recommend a reputable breeder "near" NYC?

Basenji Talk
  • Hey there folks!

Since this is my first post, let me introduce myself. I'm Danny from Brooklyn. At 33, I'm an entrepreneur in progress living with my GF. We've been considering a puppy for a while now, and after a TON of research, a Basenji is at the top of our list. We're looking for reputable breeders within a reasonable distance of NYC (we're totally willing to travel a ways, so "reasonable" is relative) who might be willing to talk to us and eventually arrange a visit to learn more about them, to see if we might find a fit for our home.

Does anyone have experience with a breeder in the Northeast who would be good for us to reach out to? We have family in DC and Pennsylvania as well, and we're happy to go for a drive/weekend trip in the other direction. We're also open to adoption, but we do know that we want a puppy.

    Thanks!

EDIT: We found a pup from a breeder in VA and will be picking him up in a few weeks.

our garden is loaded with fieldmouses at the moment…. my B's do not care very much but my Ibizan hounds snack them all the time, sometimes they bring one inside for me to have, as a present, and they look quite offended when they notice I throw their delicious present in the garbage can ....

The owls are very pretty and I also like the white one. We have a hawk after my birds outside that I would love to stuff never happen but I yell at him all the time. Rita Jean

Great job Crystal and Cody:). Macpac says it all when it was stated "Kudos to you for teaching him to love and be happy. " We sometimes forget that the baby-step advances with an in home raised puppy (as difficult as that is at times) is really nothing compared to the difficulties and patience needed when an older dog, abused, neglected, or just plain unwanted/emotionally devoid Basenji is adopted in a home. Baby steps for others, can be a GIANT grand canyon type leap for a rescue/rehome and their family. Congratulations for jumping the Grand Canyon:D

Are you kidding I can't get my Abby to stop. She does it everytime someone comes up the stairs from the basement or my husband will hold his arms out like he is going to grab her and she will tilt her ears all the way back and let out a big barooooooooooo!

@etzbseder: Luckily, at my parents house, their dog has put smudges all over that door, and Medjai just scratches at it when he wants in. (I know I shouldn't reward it, but he wants in). I had Medjai yelp once when jumping off the bed, which is strange because he likes to sit on my shoulders and has jumped off there to chase animals without a problem. Keoki scratches when he wants in – started when we taught him to ring bells that were hanging, but the bells have disappeared "literally", so now he just scratches. Drives my husband crazy, but hey! Jazzy just sits quietly and winds up staying outside far longer than she wants to because I don't know she wants in. Keoki jumps up and scratches loudly.. guess who gets first?
