Great Days at the Vet.

Basenji Talk
  • I'm such a proud "mama"!

Yesterday I had to take Jazzy in the vet because she had a swollen, "goopy" eye. {Turned out to be a scratched cornea, as I figured}. My regular vet wasn't in, and it was a new-to-our-clinic vet that looked at her.
She – the vet -- doesn't own a Basenji but is a big fan and thinks she wants to own one some day. She just fell in love with Jazz, and took her around to show her off to people in the back. Jazz let them stain her eye, put meds in, etc. and didn't fight or fuss with them at all.

Today, I took Keoki in for his first check-up w/our regular vet. The other doc. came in just to see him, and asked where I get such great Basenjis.
I was happy to share the name Jumoke.
Our regular vet loved Keoki -- was impressed that he was so calm and cooperative, confident, unafraid, curious, etc, and healthy-- and said, "I didn't think I'd ever want to own a Basenji, but after seeing yours I'd think about it."

    :D Proud Mommy moments!

  • How cute your basenji's must be! They sound sweet as pie. I'm always so happy when my B is a good boy at the vet I'm sure they have enough cranky, snappy, dog to deal with as is!
That was a nice story thanks for sharing!

Took my car to the dealer today for an inspection. They put it on a lift and checked all the undercarriage and tires and found NO DAMAGE! Yea! Sure made me happy. Who knew a Prius could run over 2 big aluminum ladders at over 50 mph without any damage? Good thing Don was driving and not me, I probably would have swerved and turned us over, and hit other cars for sure. Whew, a lucky day for us.

My Basenji would never be able to do it. She loves to swim, but isn't that nice with other dogs. My Husky mix would totally love it though. :) We'd have to use a crane to get him back out. I have a "doggy swim day" almost everyday. The shelter I work with built a lake out back, and on the hot days we let all the dogs go play in it.

Most FedEx's close at 7:00 pm for overnight delivery (I'm a logistics person and make a lot of shipments with FedEx). I think sending blood has different rules, you may want to check with them.

I found this neat brush from Wal-Mart that runs by battery, and it is suppose to do the trick. It was once advertised on TV, suppose to remove the dandar and its a snap to clean. Sahara is shedding alot these days, I didn't have a battery so I couldn't try it out. Will let you know tomorrow.

@jessi76: I used a dog daycare often when my dog was young, and still use it on occassion. I looked for the same things ChaseandZahrasmom's mentioned, but I also chose the one I use because it's the same place I train my dog. The staff in the daycare knew my dog from classes, they used the same training methods throughout the day (so it continually reinforced what we learned), and it was double fenced & gated… even inside. on my dog's first day he only had a human buddy all day. then on day 2 he got introduced to another dog, close in age/size/temperment. day 3 they added another friend. They kept a file listing his "friends" so the staff always knew what playgroup to put him in. They took special care during the cold months and rainy weather to keep him warm & dry. and they only crated for 1 hr during the work day. the place I use is $25/day, which to me and my budget is alot of money, but I also think it's a very fair price to pay for the quality of care my dog gets there, which is really most important. If you have multiple places to choose from in your area, I'd drop by un-announced, so you can see what a typical day is like. Showing up without an appointment sounds like a good idea. I didin't think about that. Thank you :)
