Sonny's New Brother!

Basenji Talk
  • About a month ago my brother found a Chihuahua wandering lost in front of my parents house. After trying and being unable to find the owner my brother decided he didn't have the heart to turn the little guy over to a shelter so he decided to adopt him. My brother being the big tall guy that he is never would have imagined owning a Chihuahua (the sight of them walking down the street is rather amusing :p ) but he has fallen in love with the little guy he named Julio…well to our surprise Sonny also loves Julio!!! There's nothing funnier then watching Sonny paw at him to play & every once in a while pop him on the head when he sits in Sonny's spot.

Sonny & Julio make the most unlikely brothers! :)

  • They are too cool :D!
Nice to hear Sonny gets along with him.

  • What cute amigos! I'm glad they are both enjoying each others' company!

  • Awwwwwz check out the matching ears and expressions! I know from experience that Chihuahuas and Basenjis make great brothers ;)

  • That's great. Is Julio staying at your house or he just visits with your brother? There's a chihuahua down the street named Nacho. He loves Buddy but any other dog or person goes by and man he's the protector barking. He whimpers in joy when we approach and let's Buddy hang over the low nylon fence to say hello. One day I tried to pull the fence up and he growled at me.

This chihuahua is a hoot…He doesn't ever bark at anything except joggers and my other brother (we say he doesn't like hippies :p). They've only been together at my parents house..but they only live a few houses down from me so Sonny's views this as home also..He acts nothing like he did with the female basenji. I was amazed at how he was totally fine with this little guy being in his territory....Guess he didn't want another basenji BFF but preferred a chihuahua! I always tell people there is nothing normal about my B..:D:D:D

Maybe Sonny was worried she was going to try to change him.;) You see this little guy excepts Sonny as he is. :D

  • Julio is very cute, it's great that they get on so well.

  • I love it..what a great pair of ..trouble…Great picture.

I had nose surgery a few months ago and when I got home I was worried the dogs would be so excited and jump all on me, but it was crazy how mild mannered and dare I say tame/domesticated they were. I swear they knew I was hurt and gave me a day or so of good behavior. They are truly great dogs to own!

Those look very nice. I use harnesses for Eddie due to neck issues that presented as a severe limp right front leg/shoulder. A good friend/chiro felt around and thought it was actually neck, so we do "gently pull his head off' stretches when he seems stiff and that , combined with a 'step-in' harness has made a huge difference. I hope your Nicky is better soon and that the harness helps him as much as one helped Eddie.

EL D will occasionally sleep partly on the pillow (when I'm not in the bed). Usually though he sleeps totally under the covers (actually his own sleeping bag on the bed).

Sometimes the best medicine is to be around those you love. Hopefully being with her family will help her continue to heal. Thanks for the update….keep us posted. (Sending healing thoughts to Annie)

@Lenora: As some of you may know, Abbey turned the Big 3 on Christmas Day. She has made a few resolutions for 2007 which I think reflect her new maturity. (1.) I will not kiss any more kitties even if they are my cousin, because my nose is still sore from last time. (2.) If given a choice between a bath and going out in the rain, I will choose the rain if I have to tinkle really bad, and going out in the rain may actually delay having to get a bath. (3.) I will not get up from a nap when my mom is taking a shower and knock the ironing board over on my head. (4.) This year I resolve to eat healthier. No more bath sponges, bath scrubbies, socks, catalogs, leaves off the airplane plant, or my Santa's nose. (5.) When my mom has Important Visitors I will not excuse myself from the room and return carrying a bra. This causes my mom to make very loud noises which hurt my ears and makes me ashamed of my little joke for nearly a whole minute. Happy New Year from Abbey and Lenora! I should probably get my own username on this forum, so I'm not continuing to write about my own undergarments & such under my boyfriend's name… My boyfriend's basenji mix loves dirty clothes. Andrew used to have two female roommates, and Bandit would pull their dirty undergarments out, chew the crotches out and leave crotchless panties lieing around in embarassing places. I felt so sorry for them! Another time, he ate the hems off of Andrew's pantlegs. We came home one evening to find something sticking out of Bandit's butt. Upon further investigation, Andrew ended up pulling out two 6" pieces of pant hems from Bandit's rearend. Bandit also loved to dig through Andrew's roommates' bathroom garbage & pull out the really nasty items and eat those. Many a small string has been found dangling from his mouth while trash is strewn about the bathroom floor... Yuck! Carrie
