  • Chief settling in and me finding a little time between puppy training.

  • Very, very cute…what a lovely boy.

  • what a happy kid! lucky you

  • Always nice to see Basenjis enjoying the sunshine!

  • His sister, C-Me sends a big paw wave to her brother!!! How is house and crate training going?

  • Chief waves back!!! :)

He knows "go pee" and "go potty" now we have only a few accidents which are probably more our fault then his. As in last night while trying to put these pics on the forum I believe I missed the signal and he messed on the floor. Crating is getting better he still cries but now its not so intense. All in all things are going well I think.

We are only a driveway gate away from completing our fence. I was wondering if it is too late to start teaching them a certain spot to go. Zoey as it is hates going in her own yard wants to do her business on walks only. Mischief hardly ever goes on our walks unless they are so long he cant hold it any longer.

  • Never too late… gggg.... just takes time and patience... And I will agree when they are used to going potty on lead, sometimes it is difficult to get them to potty in their yards.. I have the reverse problem, teaching the two monkeys to potty on lead, as they have free use of the yard.

Glad things are going well and that he is fitting into the family. C-Me has the most delightful temperament (as does Franie).... however, that said, C-Me, we have decided is part "mountain goat" as there is nothing that she will not or can not climb on....

  • C-Me, we have decided is part "mountain goat" as there is nothing that she will not or can not climb on….

I think Chief shares that trait he can get anywhere there is food. I thought I had his outside treats high enough out of the way but hubby said he climbed up there and finished off the jar.

Does C-Me bark. When Chief is trying to get zoe or someone to play with him he will let out a yip or 2. Sadly after the first week we havent been able to get him to baroo again. Though Zoe is on a roll she still only does it when she is tied and cant reach one of the family as they arrive home. When she does they can usually get 3 or 4 out of her.

Pat, that's the dog's way of asking to go to agility class!!!

    LOL, I believe that…gggg

And as far as yodeling... she will sort of... but she can let out that little single bark too... and not that often... usually when I get home from work depending on how wound up she is...

  • Glad Chief is settling well, he's a gorgeous looking Puppy.

I am not in your area, but ... you should know that dog training is about teaching you how to interact with your dog, as opposed to teaching your dog how to do things. Most area Kennel Clubs offer training where you are your dogs partner in the class. The things you will learn will last your lifetime. I applaud the non-punitive approach. A lot of people fly off the handle when their dog chews on the wrong thing, or doesn't quite have potty training down. One of the best things you can do is give them love when they do it right and don't react when they don't. Recognize that he's just a pup. You can trade an acceptable chew toy for your shoes, and you can avoid the problem by closing the closet door so your pup can't get to your shoes. Accidents will happen and learning to potty doesn't happen overnight. Just provide a lot of verbal love when the pup gets it right and don't react when he doesn't. Love and praise are the best tools in your training bag. Congrats on your pup. Can't wait to hear about all of your adventures!
