My Dog Artimis

Show Off Your Dog
  • this is Bear the Boston/lab and Art Boston/IDK they both have the same mom but are from to different litters with two very different dads

I think he is part basenji because of his build and curly tail. He also doesn't make any noises at all when playing with over dogs. Some times it can get him into trouble because the other dogs don't know when he's had to much

he loves to out run much larger dogs to make them feel bad

But sometimes he isn't the most graceful of dogs

Please let me know what other types of dog you can see in art.

  • He is very cute, could maybe have some Basenji, but there are many different breeds that have tails that curl over the back. Any of the artic breeds, like Akitas has tails that curl and are built like he is… but all are welcome here

  • What ever the mix, he is a cutie…wow! that is some photo of the 2 dogs snarking.

  • Welcome to the forum, you have two nice Dogs. It's possible Art has some Basenji in him looking at the head shot.

@Lovelace: Really? What ones? I don't know of any that have all the criteria? I've done extensive research on the breeds, and i'm curious I don't recall any. I think Pat means lots of dogs have one or more of these traits. Those three things all together MAY be an indication that the dog does have some basenji in it…but not for sure. Because the dog could be a boxer/husky mix...and end up with right color/markings, pointy ears, a curly tail, and have wrinkle on the forehead (lots of dogs have wrinkles around the face). Rat terriers are notorious for looking like Basenjis...but the shape of their head is slightly different, and the breed was founded using some Basenji way back. Another thing to remember is that after several generations of mixing, all dogs tend to go back to a natural or pariah dog shape...squarish, brown, pointy ears, slightly curled tail...that is just the natural phenotype of "dog"...so a dog might end up looking Basenji-ish even if there is no actual Basenji there. I am not refering specifically to the OP...that dog does look like it might have some Basenji in it..or Rat terrier...but it is REALLY hard to say for sure. It doesn't matter really, because everyone is welcome here...Basenji, mix, B-look alike...welcome...

Nexa is full af. and she is very cautious in new situations. She is curious and wants to say hi to every dog or person we see, but if they approach her she will back away. The introductions have to go at her pace. We were on a walk the other day and she was desperate to investigate a cat laying in someone’s driveway. She just stood there staring at the cat from 5-6 feet away, as soon the cat came towards her she tucked her tail and ran like it was a lion after her. The cat might have weighed 8 pounds wet. She is wary, but with her curiosity she just can’t let things go.
