My boyfriend and I are both 5'5" but she has been around other dogs tons of other people and it seems that she isn't shy with smaller people. She was very shy when we first got her around other people but there are a select few that she runs from. I will usually give a person a treat or two if she is afraid of them and that will work but other times we have to have that person sit on the ground or something just for her to come over. Thanks for all the replies guys! My computer was down for a few days and I come back to a wealth of knowledge 🙂

Update: She is 21.5 from withers and she is 48lbs, loves our new kitty Nora and is somewhat gentle with her. I am actually more afraid for the dog than I am the cat haha

I have 2 Eldorado basenjis and also their male that they imported from Finland. 2 I adopted as adult show dogs retirees. I couldn't be happier with my basenjis. They have wonderful termperaments and Eldorado is big on health testing. The sisters are super helpful and always willing to answer my silly questions. 😃

I have noticed Gizmo seems to quite often have a drop hanging on his penis a lot of the time. Also it's sometimes white, almost as if it's sperm.
Now the first thing I thought of was your typical puberty signs, wetdreams etc. since his blanket also has quite a few drops stains on it.

Is this normal? Or should I be worried/aware about something else?

It probably wouldn't be a bad idea…shepherds have a predisposition to hip problems. If they grow too fast, it exacerbates the problem. Also, depending on the Basenji line your pup has, it may be a slow-maturing line. In that case, they aren't supposed to grow too fast.

Let's see what the experts have to say about it...you might consider direct messaging Tanza or Khanis.

I'll try that as well. Nige already chewed through a bit of his. When we walk passed this darned male Shepard mix that is always left outside, unattended, off leash, in the yard that backs up to open space trail, Nigel spins around and catches his leash or his easy walk in his mouth. It takes a second for me to calm him down and have him sit and shake for a treat or to just keep walking while I stare the dog down and tell him to go home.Hopefully that makes a better fit.

I saw a thread in Books (I think) called Basenji Owner's Manual that some of the members are saying is pretty good. Keep in mind that Lilu is part Shepherd too. She may end up with some behavioral traits of that breed as well.
