Vaccinosis??

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • Hello all,
Was just reading about some stuff online and came across Vaccinosis. Basically stating that the reasons of some of the health problems with dogs these days are due to over vaccinations. Has anyone looked into this or are you practicing not getting your dog vaccinated so often? Just wondering which route I should take. I have my pups first vet visit on Friday 11/20 so any insight would be greatly appreciated!

  • I feel that the vets are trying to get us to vaccinate too much or too often, I think some people on here do something called Titer, where you do your dogs bloodwork and it shows what he already has in his system and what he is lacking, so you only vaccinate according to what his very body needs as supposed to getting it all done for no reason..other then making some vet's wallet thick..
Some vets won't do this, why I don't know..but it is worth asking about. I have yet to ask my vet, I guess I don't want to know..pretty sure he would say no way..but I will once they are due for their boosters..if we can eliminate vaccinations that aren't necessary..wouldn't that be great, for all parties?
Google Titer and see what you can find..

I would suggest you visit Dr. Dodds site for recommendations for vaccinations schedules… and sometimes you really need to take a stand with your Vet.. and if they will not accept what you want.. be prepared then find a different Vet... IMO

  • Tanza , I agree on changing vet if they won't do what you want..that is what I will do, if he won't do the titer. I have a few months before my next dog needs his booster, and I will find a great new vet if I have to.

    Do you believe in titer?
By the way, we had a happy visit today with Otis..things went great..lots of tail wagging and treats.

Yes, but I really don't have a big problem with the 3yrs vaccinaton schedules that most Vets now follow… And only I think because I travel with my dogs lots for shows and coursing... and I do not give Lepto or Corona, nor do I give kennel cough (but of course if you board or go to a doggy day care you have to and I don't have a real problem with that)

  • Remember that you do need to do the 1 year booster for most vaccines and then go to a 3 year schedule.

    Exactly.. I totally agree..

  • Thanks for all this information! I will look into everything!

Did she always have them or did they start after something/some time? Do antihistamines clear the problem?

@elbrant said in Bordatella and Canine Influenza Vaccines: @Saving said in Bordatella and Canine Influenza Vaccines: divisive I guess I'm a dreamer.... but I believe that adults can have discussions and opinions without resorting to name calling and rude remarks. Your input is valuable. Thanks, because it's become a religion as soon as you speak against it people get so offended. The last 3 years has shown that quite clearly @Saving said in Bordatella and Canine Influenza Vaccines: Another friend's dog has a swollen leg at the vaccination site of his booster which is not resolving I"m sorry to hear about your friend's loss and understand the concern about the other friend's swollen leg. I had a similar experience, one of my dog's (not doodle) had a grossly swollen leg following a vet visit. The Vet told me it was cancer and I opted to let her go. Month's later I read online that it could have been the result of an allergic reaction. Please advise your friend to research possible answers before she makes a decision. Will do, a lot of the medication/vaccines cause inflammatory responses so it could just be that, it's still not nice for the dog to have that experience @Saving said in Bordatella and Canine Influenza Vaccines: dry food ... suffering from malnutrition omgosh! That is so scary!! I doubt the big manufacturers would ever allow a real study to see the light of day, but I would love to see one done. Just the thought makes me want to keep feeding my girl human grade foods. Yeah the same here, her research indicated that raw chicken wings were the optimal food and contain pretty much everything needed. I guess if you think of some of the processed crap they have in supermarkets trading as food for humans you can imagine how low the bar can go for pet food.

@serenjane My Kembe had the freckles on her neck - more pronounced in summer months w/ the sun and also as she aged. I use to call her my little 🦒 giraffe. 😂

To give you an idea of the contrast between Basenjis and Border Collies, my BC once spit out a pill, I said "Blackie" in a disapproving tone, and he picked it up from the floor and swallowed it!
