Dogs of all Breeds will not eat something that is toxic to them. My little girl never ate Raisins or Milk Chocolate. She did enjoy the random York Peppermint Pattie because DARK Chocolate does not make the Heart race.

My Girl loved Graham Crackers with Cinnamon and Honey but there were other treats she preferred. She loved Raw Carrots that I bought for the Horses and she also loved Broccoli!

They know what not to eat so the Cinnamon is ok.

@patty I saw it on PBS Newshour. There is currently an Ebola outbreak there and the Islamic State refuses to allow people to be treated. They are a horrible scourge on the Planet and Basenjis can get Ebola too!

She is gorgeous and a keeper! She looks like she has lots of Basenji in her but I do not know what the rest of her could be!

@susanlvs2jmp As others have said BRAT is a great resource. You should also keep working with her because Basenjis are extremely intelligent and she will want to bond with YOU as you are the Leader of the Pack. I would not give up on her so soon, she may become a fantastic companion for your other dogs.

    Please rethink giving her away!

    AntigoneA Antigone

@selimahope When I first got my Dog a gal at the Horse Farm insisted she was a Jack Russell Terrier. She had never heard of the Breed. I am glad you have taken it upon yourself to adopt this Dog and if you live defensively you won't have a problem. I wish people would stop breeding to other Breeds as these Dogs are now on the International Endangered Species list due to the Islamic State haven taken over the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

    Enjoy your dog!

@khaipan I am all for altenative modalities but CBD Oil or Cream has not been tested on Domestic Animals. Having said that I would not put the stuff IN your Dog's mouth. It is for Topical use only. I think that the more experienced humans who have been owned by their B's will provide good advice.

I hope you find a solution!

  • CBD for Pet....
    AntigoneA Antigone

There is little data or studies regarding Medical Marijauna used in Animals for an alternative modality for treatment of any kind. One Article is simply not enough. I have considered trying the CBD Cream for my Back pain. There have been many studies regarding Medical Marijauna for treating Auto-Immune Diseases such as MS. One Vendor is 'Charlotte's Web' and their products are legal in all of the 50 states.

I would not treat my Dog with Cancer with this stuff because it is a topical and we do not know if applying it to the Dog's skin will irritate the Cancer.

Good luck and you may try feeding your Dog Vegtarian Dog Food because animal flesh and Fish encourages the growth of Cancer. My Antigone had a Carcinoma when she was 12. I had it removed and changed her diet to a Vegetarian and she lived to be 16 years old.

Diet in my experience is the best way to manage a Dog or Cat with Cancer.

    Good luck!

  • Transporting a puppy.
    AntigoneA Antigone

@tanza I have flown with a Kitten that I rescued from the street when I lived in Boston. My late Dad flew us both 1st Class and there was a seat for me and a seat for the Kitten's Crate. My Dad for some strange reason named that Kitten 'Billy" even though she was a female. She adored my Dad and always made a huge fuss over him.

The ONLY way I would fly a Puppy, Kitten or whatever animal you have would be in 1st Class with 2 Seats. Non Stop flights too.

If you cannot be present when your pup is transported I would drive and take your current dog with you. That way he will not feel left out and just be curious about the Pup.

@rgk9ruler My B detested her Crate unless we were in the car going someplace. They must get into the Crate for Vets, etc. Give them something to chew on and put the Crate so they can see you. Practice taking short trips so they will get used to it. These Dogs are so curious that they like new things! It worked for my Dog because I always want all of my Animals to be safe! :)

@debradownsouth The Mainstrem does not necesarily have the best answers. The reason you have those particular sources is due to the FACT that ALL Vets resent the competion from the Homeopatchic Vets. Horse Vets are more interested in being Homeopathic Vets because they know that Drugs are not the ONLY solution to solving a problem. One of my Mares has Gastric Ulcers and after trying to help to get rid of them it became apparent that there are too many. I had a full body scan of this particular Mare and she has so many that there is no way I could 'Scope' her. Since the Gastic Ulcer Meds did not work I am now treating her by diet which includes a cube of Alfalfa Hay every morning. This type of Hay absorbs the Acids in the Gut. All of the Hay is grown on the Farm.

You simply cannot ignore the Homeopathic Modality because the Veterinary Community will always resent the Competition. A lot of the Homeopathic Modalities have been used for hundreds of years such as the Guinness Stout. I buy that stuff by the Case every Month. Now after a woman delivers a child in Ireland she is given a Pint of Guinness Stout because it is beneficial in restoring vitamins, minerals and protiotics that have been lost during Labor and Delivery.

You just cannot deny things that have worked for 100's of years. The Vets dislike the Competion so they will always say that it is an invalid Science. It clearly is not.

    Thanks.

@dennis We had Copperhead Snakes here which are deadly. My Beagle Hound would find one and come barreling Home with one in his mouth that was playing dead. Snakes are all over the US and a lot of them are invasive species brought illegally from other Countries. They have Pythons and Boa Constrictors in Florida that are fast and they have killed Dogs and people too.

I have no idea how to train your Dogs to not do what comes naturally to them. They are too curious and stubborn for their own good! My gal climbed a Tree at the Horse Farm and she went to high and was too scared to jump down. It took 4 people holding a Draft Horse blanket and loads of encouragement and bribes with her favorite Biscuit. When she got hungry she finally jumped and she had a soft landing right into the Blanket. She NEVER climbed that particular tree again but she did climb smaller trees. I never had her Dew Claws removed because when those are removed it messes with their balance and the ability to climb trees.

Wow, I have never been a fan of the Desert. I have been to Turkey, Greece, Israel, Ireland and France plus a lot of the Carriberan Islands. I have been to several Greek Islands including one that was a Volcnic Island that had black sand. Sadly it is no longer safe to travel to a lot of the Greek Islands due to the Migrants. Greece has done more than its fair share of accepting the Migrants.

Those Tararnula wasps sound awful! Keep safe!!

@dennis The Desert poses lots of problems. You may not have Lymes or the EPM that dogs get but a whole lotta trouble. I have zero experience with that environment having lived on the East Coast for all of my life. I have been to most of the US except for Alaska and Hawaii. I have no idea what to suggest but maybe you can get the Air Filters that Construction workers use and retrofit them to fit your Dogs. If you are clever with your hands you could make these yourself. The eyes get irritatted as well. How about Goggles? I know it sounds goofey but you have to solve these problems in your own way. Invent something and get a Patent on it!

    Best of luck!

@abrunelle 20 years ago when I got my little girl I left her at the Horse Farm where she packed with older well trained Doga. She modeled her behavior after theirs and it was the easiest Puppy training I ever did.You do have to be the Alpha but that does not mean doing anything harsh. These Dogs cannot stand being ignored! When my Dog did something that was not good I ignored her. Sometimes for a few minutes sometimes for an Hour. That is what I mean about being the Alpha. Nothing more and nothing less.

My Cat would pop the closet door open and assist my dog with the process of Clothing Destruction! When I had that Cat, my B and my Wolf the Cat was the Alpha! He would trap them at the bottom of the Stairs and sit in the middle of the Staircase flicking his tail. My B did not make that much noise when he did that and the Wolf was always quiet, he Howled when he was dreaming.

I never let her have access to the Litter Box so that was never a problem.

    Hang in!!!

This is really a lot of bunk. Vets do not respect the Homeopathic Modalities because they do not want the Competition. It is that simple and you can give me examples until the Cow jumps over the Moon but that does not change the fact that your sources are all mainstream.

I give my off track Horses a pint of Guinness Stout first thing in the Morning because Alfred Guinness invented this as a Horse Tonic. I buy the Imported stuff because the Lymestone in the Water is what helps the Horses develop good strong bone. It is also full of prebiotics and probiotics and that is great for the Horse's gut.

The Vets are against Chriropractic too. Well I have had my Horses backs 'cracked' by a Chiropractor and always had great results.

You have to understand that the Mainstream will always be against simple things that do not require prescription for a Drug.

The NIH still uses Chimpanzees and Monkeys for experimentation. They are now using Kittens and an organization called White Coat Waste investigates them all the time.

There is always more info that is not yet in the Mainstream and since you really are a good reseacher I am surprised that you have only stuck to the mainstream.

@dennis If there are Oppossums and Raccoons in your area do NOT let the Dogs eat grass. These animals carry a parasite that is transfered via the feces. In Horses it is called EPM and it is basically Horse Multiple Sclerosis. My 25 year old Quarterhorse had to be put down due to that. I now manage all of my Mares differently.

If these animals are in your area and there is something going on with your Dogs walking such as walking crooked or losing the control of the hind legs then you can ask the Vet (Horse Vets have the most experience with this) for a test that is done in South Carolina only. I will have to go through my Vet Records from when I had to euthanize my Horse to tell you the name of the Company that does this.

EPM mimics Lymes Disease and you should always have your Dog tested for Lymes. Lymes causes Cancer and it is a horrible disese.

No grass eating if the wild animals are in your area. In NJ where I live we no longer have these animals because the State Department of the Environment kills them. They do this because we have the Headquarters of the United States Equestrian Team here and the Horses are very valuable. I Board my Horses with a friend in PA right across the State Line so that is how my Horse got the EPM. There is no point in moving my Mares back to NJ because they have all been exposed. Eventually it will kill them.

I too would want a healthy Pup and if I were not so crazy about the Breed I would go to the Shelter and get a Dog from there. My Horses are always Owner Surrenders so I do not buy them. I am telling you this because it sounds like the Dog you lost may have been exposed to this Parasite.

This is a relatively new developement in diseases in Canids. The Vets do not know it when they see it and the Small Animal Vets do not share information with Equine Vets. There is a crossover and the AVMA which is PRO Slaughter for Horses and their Cousins does not inform the Small Animal Vets about things like EPM. I think this will be changing because as more Dogs are exposed and it is not Lymes they will have to admit there is something else going on.

Enjoy your Pups Dennis but do not let them eat the grass!

    Regards,

    A

@dennis I respect folks who Breed responsibly but generally I am against buying any animal. There are so many Shelter pets that I regard buying a Purebred anything a Luxury. My Girl was the Only animal I have ever paid for. She was worth every cent, every chewed wire, shoe, Book and whatever you can think of. I adored her and when I lost her it felt like I lost my child.

I would never want the responsibility for Breeding anything. I do research to find answers about endangered species because we are going to lose a lot of Species generally. There is the INTERNATIONAL Endangered Species List and it has some domestic Dogs and Cats there so I keep a close eye on that. I also am a Member of the United Nations 'League of Nations' for Animal Welfare. This is a NGO that is granted by the United Nations Department of Hygiene for Animals. The Agency is administrated in Paris.

Good luck with your Pups and take advice from the experienced Breeders here.

@wizard Lavendar EO diluted will not harm anything. 1/4 Teaspoon mixed with 4 Ounces (1/2 cup) of distilled water is very safe. I am not a Vet and I have a definite dislike for Small Animal Vets. They charge so much money and they always want to sell you something like Prenisone which is a Steroid and it can cause 'Roid Rage'. They rarely listen to what you are telling them. I know this because when I was out of College I had a Job as a Vet Tech. I took a course and have a Certificate but now they probably require a 2 year Course which costs a ton of money.

I have always Vaccinated my animals myself. So I do NOT take risks with anything but knowing how Vets work I prefer homeopathic approaches. There are Homeopathic Vets they have additional training beyond the usual course. They have their own 'Society" and they treat small and large Animals. You can look that up on the Internet.

I did not suggest the other oils you have mentioned because I know tthey irritate the skin

    Thanks!
