Malaika behaves like a Dog

It seems Malaika has some Dog in her after all ;)
Today we were in the Park and the rain was lashing down, didn't bother her a bit. Once we were down in the woods she enjoyed splashing in the stream and retrieved sticks that i threw several times. She was one very wet Dog, funny though that we can't get her to go into the garden for a wee if it's raining. Thats when she turns into a Basenji ;)

When she's in the woods she's in play mode so the water is just part of the fun but when it's just pee time well she's just not in play mode and the rain is no fun and the Basenji mode kicks in.

  • I think a lot of the B's have not gotten the memo - Shaye seems to have begun loving the water, even leaping into ponds in the dog park, and swimming in the ocean. Gemma hates it, like a normal basenji, even though she's a mix. I've spoken with lots of basenji owners whose dogs don't mind the water. Shaye doesn't even mind walking in the rain after the first twenty feet or so - she just shakes the water off from time to time, and keeps me out there for as long as it takes! Gemma quick-pees and runs for the house. So, I think there's just no telling what they will do.

  • Selective dogginess. Is that a word? Oh, well…I guess it is now. :)

Well, the lab I mentioned (chocolate overweight one) almost took me out by slamming into my knee. I commented loudly " he better not insure my knee!" No comment from the owner. Others were keeping an eye on this over exhuberant dog too. Many peeps were standing behind a bench for protection. What really bugs me is that the park has very visible signs when you enter it that say you must have control of your dog.

We have one of those spray heads on our shower that you can take off and use by hand. I get the water nice and warm, and even though Samantha isn't excited to jump in the tub, she's so good to just stand there and relax while I lather her up with doggie shampoo and rinse her off. I used to have to wrestle with my other B's to get them clean! I guess the old German saying: "All good things come in threes" is really true!

The only sweat glands on a dog are on the feet. They keep their foot pads supple, but also sent mark the trail. I actually like the way goober smells. Probably because I grew up with a dish called Frito and Chili pie. My old dog Missy had the standard stinky dog smell which I wasn't too fond of, but I didn't hate it enough to give her a bath more than once a month. I wonder if th

i bought my wife a nice basenji charm several years ago. It was pretty nice. I had to order it as most dog places/stores/gifts (unless at a dog show) do not carry basenji stuff.
