NCWC AKC Lure Coursing Results

  • Congrats!!! That's a pretty good basenji showing! So often Carrie and I bring ALL of the basenjis entered in this area so there's only like 3 running.
    Lox is precious!

I love the expressions. Pure joy.

  • Many of the trials the entry is me, my mom, and then Della Sehm. Just with us 3 entering, it means anywhere from 7-11 entries depending on whether we enter all of our dogs. Bella won the majority of her points in AKC by going BOB over the Specials. Her first 2 trials she was the only Open but took BOB for 4 points the first day and then 3 points the next.

  • I hadn't heard of this event as I would liked to have attended.

  • Big congrats to the new champion, that is wonderful. We normally have between 2-4 dogs running in our area, takes a long time to finish in ASFA at 8 pts a day.

  • I know how that goes. It will take awhile for Rally to earn her VLCM. She is going pretty much going 8 points at a time. It took Rally and Nicky longer to earn their VFCh than their FCh titles because they are the only 2 vets running at most events.

  • This past weekend at the WVBC lure trial in Cathlamet WA we had an entry of 19 basenjis! It was an all breed trial held in conjunction with the Afghan Club of Greater Portland for a fun filled 3 days of coursing.

Congrats on an exciting weekend, my boy Dude earned 2nd place in the open stake both days missing a 5 point major by a mere point… I am SO proud of him as it was our first trial :)

  • Way to go Bella!! The pics are great, love the one of L'Ox!

You can always find events for coursing by visiting www.asfa.org or www.akc.org and doing a search on the events calendar. I believe the next trials will be mid May in Hollister, can't access the ASFA site right now, but check them out

You know I did get an email reminder about that from Sue McNeill event but missed seeing it. I did get the premiums for the May event.

  • Hi
Does anyone know of a place I can take my B's to try them at lure coursing near Los Angeles?
    thanks,
    Raquel

  • Check out www.asfa.org for coursing clubs near you in So. California. You can also search the AKC events calendar for Lure Coursing events that will give you the club names. Most have practices depending on the weather and equipment.

  • Thanks, I have been at it all day, for some reason I am having trouble locating any info on these clubs online. California Coursing Assn is listed as having trials in Chino very soon. However I cannot find a website for them.
I have tried this before…...then I get tired of coming up empty. I was just hoping someone knew something I could access.....
It feels kinda like you have to "be in the know" or have a whippit or greyhound...lol!
thanks anyhow, I shall give up again until the next wave stikes me.

  • Keep checking the ASFA, AKC, LGRA or NOTRA sites monthly, new events are added all the time. I know with AKC sometimes the clubs cannot apply for another event until a scheduled event has been completed. Sometimes the clubs do not have a website, but do have an email list that you can sign up with to receive notifications and or premium lists for future events. Also, most clubs know each other, so if you find a contact at one club try asking for information on another. Hope this helps!

  • I looked on the AKC site and found the Chino trials you are talking about in November (thanksgiving weekend)

If you click on the link for the 'California Coursing Club' it will provide contact info: name, email, physical address & phone # for more information.

If you click on the 'Get Club Info' link it will show you all of the pending future trials for that club.

  • If you go to my website which is listed in my profile and email me, I can get you touch with people in Southern California who run the coursing announcement list.

  • I know how that goes. It will take awhile for Rally to earn her VLCM. She is going pretty much going 8 points at a time. It took Rally and Nicky longer to earn their VFCh than their FCh titles because they are the only 2 vets running at most events.

@ibi_n_sane: yess it was a great day :D cant wait to see the pictures of Job ( Janneke's boyfriend ) that he made from our dogs too! we only took our galgo and 2 ibizans to the coursing, that gives us all our hands full enough haha the basenjis and our oldest ibizan hound can come the next time, allthough they enjoy the racing track too! ( the settlement of the racing track allows us to take all dogs at the same time and not having our hands full with these 6 haha ) I loved to see Barry (the galgo) run.. he ran beautiful…. :D And yes... I liked Cy and Smitty also... :D

This coming weekend there is LGRA and NOTRA in Orange County. My mom has the information. I think there is also some racing in December in Orange County. Don't know what the show schedule looks like or if these conflict with any. I do know this time of year is the racing season in So Cal since the parks are available.

Yay glad to see some more local interest! As far as training, there is a group called SONG (Sighthounds of North Georgia) that does informal practices once a month or so depending on man power & weather. These practices are a great way to introduce a new dog to the lure. However, for most dogs its an instinctual thing & they don't need much training. Lola & Callie both caught on to it their first time. I just let them both watch other dogs doing it first, then let them go & they did their thing. Website for SONG: http://www.nghounds.info/index_files/Page430.htm It doesn't get updated frequently, but go to the lure coursing practice tab, scroll to the bottom & there are instructions to get on the e-mail list for upcoming practices. Hope to see you lure coursing soon!

But then I recommend that all be muzzled when running. I never used to.. but over the years of coursing have totally changed my mind. But not because dogs might be nasty… If you start out your dogs with a muzzle, they begin to associate the muzzle with coursing and know when that goes on they are going to "chase" the bunny. I would prefer that it was "required" for all hounds to run muzzled like it is for Oval/Straight line.
