Interesting Mix

Basenji Talk
  • We recently rescued a chihuahua. We have Noel who is a 16 month old Basenji. This chihuahua (named Bean) is so scared of Noel. bean will growl and try to attack Noel constantly. noel is so good with Bean. She will come close while bean is growling and as bean tries to bit, noel will move her face away and then back and away….I think noel is trying to show bean that she does not want to hurt him. Anyway...now I've got to try to work with bean and agression but Noel is awesome with him.

@Kembe 1 hardly any podengo dna on file and honestly the guess your breed tests are just that. Phot in field looks more podengo Close up basenji. Enjoy your dog. Fyi I raised basenjis since 1982 and Podengo grande since 2007

, even the strange voices seem to appear in many pariah type dogs. I can so see that, Moses, our almost 9 month old portuguese podengo grande sounds just like a howlling, yodeling basenji at times, then he breaks into this excruciatingly loud bark..

@Larka: The weird thing about the Dobie that made us think maybe Basenji is that the white spots on her are all the same markings that my Basenji mix has. Is there a dog that has the same markings as a Basenji? Lots of dogs. That white pattern is called Irish Spotting. Off the top of my head…collies, border collies, australian shepherds, boxers, great danes...I am sure there are bunches more...
