Adding another pet

  • In about a month my son and his wife will be moving in until they move to Virgina this summer. When they come they will be bringing an adult cat with them. Now my poor old cat who is around 17 yrs and has had the house and humans to himself for something like 13 yrs has to put up with a third animal invading his space. A year ago it was my B zoey. In October it was my sons dog Lizzy. Really he has been great about it. At meal times all three will be there at my feet waiting for me to dish it out. Cat gets fed first and he makes sure they know it lol
Any suggestions on how to make this transition easier. This cat has been at her moms and is used to other cats but not dogs. I was thinking they should bring the cat for a few visits before they move in to see how things go so we can plan.

  • Visits are a great idea. In the past year I have been staying at my familys farm wich has plenty of room but I added another dog and my Mother got another dog for a total of 4. Not bad since two are tiny ones, lol. But it took a bit to learn to b a good pack. I am not sure how cats mix with the dogs but I'm sure visits won't hurt any. Good Luck :)

@glenn-jalivay2 - Many use kibble and raw, usually what they do (myself included) is one meal would be kibble and one meal raw.... I agree with Redial about the age and taking a 6wk pup. In the US is is not legal in most all states to place pups less than 8wks. Basenjis in particular do much better at 10wks at least. They learn important lessons from littermates and other adults in the home from 6wks to 10wks. And I as a breeder do not feel they are mature enough to leave their littermates at 8wks. Always exceptions and that would be to an experienced Basenji home with an adult dog... as the adult will teach the pup way more that humans ever can.

The Australian laws stipulate that the animal has to be able to stand and turnaround without touching the container. They will not allow two to travel together, and you have to get a certificate signed by a vet that they are fit to make the journey within a day. There are a number of things to consider about flying, and when I shipped to USA they were put in the cargo and not let out for 16 hours during the flight - just as well. When I shipped to Hawaii, no rabies there, he held onto everything, and as soon as he was out of his crate at the other end, he had a gigantic piddle. And smiled.

Ibi_n_sane, have you reported them to web provider for violating copyright? In many cases this is the only way to get people to stop using copyrighted pictures.

You have some beautiful pets, I love the RR, that is one of the breeds I really wanted , but we opted for a B instead..after lots of research of course. The little C–er Spaniel is adorable.
