    Wow, the book is adorable! Welcome to the site. We too only have one. (I wonder why I said, "only"?) My son, however, just suggested we get another one. How on earth do you bike with Rou?!!!

    Welcome Rou!! What a wonderful story & what an honor to meet the author of Rou's Tips :D :D

    I own 2 furballs :) and I have to say I was so amazed by the fact that you exercise them 6/7 MILES :eek: I'm so ashamed that I only do about 3 miles on a run every morning with my two. I don't think I'm coordinated enough to bike. I've tried roller blading & after too many skinned knees I gave up with both & now can do one at a time! :)

    Thanks so much for the kind words! My daughter is delighted that her work has been seen all the way from California to Maine to Australia to Scotland. We have been so fortunate to find that basenjis owners are such a devoted, wonderful group of folks.
    If you are curious enough to see what a Springer attachment on the bike looks like, there is a photo posted on Roussi's Dogster page. If I was a bit more clever, I would post the image directly on this site, but alas, I have yet to determine how that is done. It is such a fantastic feeling to bike with a dog that is in full sprint mode. I highly recommend giving it a try.

    Biking is so great. The attachment connects right to any bicycle and your basenji can run as fast or as slowly as they want, or as you cna pedal :) We've clocked Rou at 18 mph. It really helps keep everyone fit. And as you are probably well aware, a happy basenji is a tired basenji.

    I gave Rou two bones!!!
    How do you prevent Rou from running into the spoke's? One time and they learn???!!! Nevermind…I went to the website for an explanation.
    I have visited Rou's site previously. Very adorable!

    Actually, the Springer is designed so the dog can't run too far forward or backwards. The dog essentially has to stay right beside the bike. If a dog was particularly persistent, as a basenji is wont to be, it could somehow get between the two bike wheels, in that area underneath the seat, to the other side. That has never happened though. Once the wheels are spinning, Rou seems to instinctively understand that they are to be avoided.

    That b/w is a man with attitude ! He'll survive - But talk to Steve Gonto - a great benefactor to our breed. I was delighted to meet him on a visit to our shores many years ago now.

    I have to go read your link, but having been called to the shelter to see a chow that was an overweigh pomeranian, a rottweiler that was a lovely hound dog (Rottie rescue in FL told me keep quiet, they knew it wasn't a rottie but had a good home so just get it. I expected a LITTLE Rottweiler looking... bahahaha, no.)... vets who thought our basenjis were so many other things, not much surprises me.

    Hi @2baroos , the vet has checked for a UTI and she is healthy. I have tried thunder jackets with her and she tears it off with assistance from her companion. I'm afraid she will certainly remove anything we put on her, especially diapers. We're trying to discourage her from peeing in the crate at all. She used to sleep in a cardboard box that she loved and started to completely destroy it once the anxiety started, now she shreds her bedding and pees on it. I know how this must be really upsetting to her and am trying my best to take care of her.

    @krunzer: Keep them separate in their own crates. The older one may not want to put up with puppy play in a big crate. When crated mine are always separate unless they are at the kennel, then they are in the same pen because Becca is not fond of the kennel. PS, basenjis don't like being woken up much, and one dog annoying another who wants to stay asleep might result in a fracas in a confined space; never a good thing.

    He's a hungry dog today. Gave him 1/2 cup in the morning and just a few minutes ago. He had no problem eating. I'm much more happy that he's eating now. He likes his bone as well. Not too much into the Kong yet. I just wish he didn't cry in his crate when I put him in there. Feel bad for him but I know it just takes adjusting. He is perfectly fine when I return home after he's been in there awhile. It's just the initial time. To be honest though, this transition went far better than I expected. I was prepared for the worst. This little guy has done very well.
