@lustopher No ! they will gum them if they can't chew and it all helps with teething.

I'm trying to keep up with comments directed towards me but I just want to thank everyone for your experiences and recommendations about food and everything else on this thread. I appreciate all of you!

I had a somewhat similar experience. Joey had a seizure which I correlate to taking Simparica. He looked terrible so took him to the vet when the first seizure happened and he was late Stage 2. Put him on Royal Canin kidney kibble and Hills kidney wet food and 4 years later he has only had 1 more seizure and his kidney values have remained constant. I will believe your homemade version is most likely better if you have the correct proportions. All the best to your Bs! Joey will be 15 in November.

I know this topic is old, but I give my B freeze dried salmon bites as treats. I usually find them in the cat section

The issue with chocolate is theobromine. Carob contains theobromine but in much smaller quantities (somewhere similar or lower than white chocolate). So a dog would have to ingest a large quantity to have a problem. I see carob on hand baked dog treats at local pet boutiques. Based on that, I think probably a small amount infrequently wouldn't be a problem. For me personally though, I probably wouldn't give it to MY dogs…that is just me.

**I mix too! I like to change it up a little so they are not getting the same food all the time. Imagine yourself eating the same food day after day after day, tho I don't think they mind it a bit!! :o) Currently I am mixing Canidae with Eagle Holistic. I am reading up on blue buffalo brought home some samples and they love it. But again, mine are not picky eaters. I also add fish oil pills (x2), nupro, glucosamine, pet tabs plus as supplements.**
