    We live in NC which is a little cooler, but I have seen my basenjis laying in the sun when it is 100F or when it is 40F. We can't leave them in the house all day due to destruction, but a laundry room they can go into with a dog door as well as a seperate room in the garage with a dog door. Plus we have a table with umbrealla on teh deck and they will move between full sun and any of those areas when they feel like it.

    Even when we are home all day they alternate between inside and outside in teh sun.

    I have the same setup. I keep Buddy, 8 months old outside with the dog door blocked as he would be destructive inside while the weather is mild. Come winter I will have to just let him have access to the laundry room only as that's where the dog door enters and keep the laundry room door to the rest of the house closed. There's also a door going into the garage.

Like @tanza, I have sold puppies into apartment environments as long as all other boxes ticked positive. Someone there all the time, proper attention to training, not just leaving the dog alone, especially not as a puppy. btw, he won't bark at all. As you would know if you had really researched the breed. He will cry and scream but not bark ! No. At least you are asking questions but I really think you should find another breed.

    I read your blog and find it kind of confusing and ….. your comment about "messing with ..." hmmmmmmm.... Anyhow, yes, it is so cool when you come across another basenji, because they totally understand each other and how they want to play. We were fortunate once to have another basenji play chase with Kipawa at a dog park. I just don't think there are many basenjis in the Lower Mainland. :(

    Who would pay if the breeder had to pay for a C-section for the dam which is not cheap? This is why BYBs/commercial breeders should not breed. Many think it is so easy with few costs and they will get lots of pups to sell! I talked a few commercial breeders from bidding on Basenjis at the dog auctions-told them about the once a year going into season-pups not being available for sale until after Christmas, possible C-sections, and the not too large litters. I had never heard of this problem in this pup until now. It sounds like a developmental problem in the womb not a genetic one. The health website she linked to was for humans not animals/dogs!     My Basenji Billy is quite undershot; he's a purebred, his bottom jaw just didn't stop growing when it was supposed to. That's okay, I'm a bit of a sucker for a dog with an underbite anyway.:) He was my first rescue Basenji.

    I have found that if I take my B to doggie daycare (even if it's only for half a day), she is ehausted when I bring her home. She will let me do the dishes without any basenji help! She also tends to treat our doggie friends a little nicer when they come around. Having a worn out basenji is deifinitely worth the $15!!
